My 200 Quit

The other day I went for a ride on my BMS Pathfinder 200. Got out about 3 miles and cruising about 50 and the thing just quit. I had to tow it home. Tore into it today, took off all the tupperware around the engine. I put in a new NGK plug, no start. Took valve cover off and intake was right on, exhaust was so loose I was able to get a .050 feeler gauge in there. I tightened that up to .005, no start. I pulled the hose off after the filter and gas would squirt out as I tried to start. I took the plug out and with it in the spark plug wire it would spark. Help!!!!!

If the exhaust valve is that wide all of a sudden you may have a valve hung... meaning the spring is not returning it, or you could have dropped a valve guide...
Need to run a compression check to verify

I pulled the plug and stuck finger in hole, with throttle wide open and hitting the start button it had lots of compression, like blowing my finger away..

My guess would be something after the fuel filter then. I'd pull the carb and tear it down. Check the float and give it a good cleaning. JMO, Rich

No way. My two cents is that the CDI is shot. I've seen the damn thing spark outside the motor but it doesn't work inside since the voltage really isn't the required 20,000 volts. First try squirting gas into the engine, putting the plug back and see if it starts in case I'm wrong.

Check your plug boot on the plug... there is a 1" piece of brass wire that grips the threads on the top of the plug.. I suspect when you removed the plug boot the wire fell out.. happens frequently...

I pulled the carb and cleaned it out. Took the jets out and ran a wire thru the holes. Put the carb back on and put some gas down the vacuum line and bike started but would not idle. Started it again and it would run like 4000 rpm then would drop to nothing and engine would die. Now what do I do?

I think you've got it narrowed down to a fuel problem. Maybe the low speed circuit is plugged afer the jet. If it was mine I'd disassemble the carb and squirt cleaner through all the passages to make sure they're clear. Do you know where the low speed circuit terminates or should I find you a pic? Rich

I took the carb back off and will try cleaning again. I took the diaphragm and needle out This piece in the following picture came out of somewhere and I don't know where.

So is it running good for you now? Or do you still have some problems. Alleyoop

My 200 Quit

Ok, here's the latest. I got carb all put back together and put it back on the bike. It would not start. It sounded like there was no compression. Took valve cover off again and found exhaust valve with no clearence. I set the valves again, bike started. Ran a minute or so and quit. Tryed to start and again sounded like no compression. Pulled valve cover off once again and exhaust was tight again. I loosened it up like about .025, bike started and was idleing for a few minutes and quit and same issue with the compression. When this thing first quit about a week ago I pulled the valve cover off and that exhaust valve clearence was around .050. So I guess I'll have to pull the head and see what's going on. Not looking forward to this.
