Hey Jim? Yhe Magnum wants a fully hot/charged battery in the cooler weather or she is ugly to start in the morni when coldngs. I did ride her the nite befor with the high beams on for about an hours or so that is probley what did it. Ran her around for a day and she is fine. Like an old lady when cold.

Did you find a replacement or are you going to rebuile yourself?

I got a regulator from him he does not do stators he suggested Custom Rewind in Birmingham, Alabama 800-798-7282 wrote he had heard good things about them. I am waiting on a stator from IB. May have my old one done as a spare. On the regulator I now have 4. 1 is on the trike (OMP) the 1 I took off, 1 replacement from IB and 1 I had bought in a parts kit when I first ordered the trike ( I forgot about it) They make nice Xmas gifts. Order now and I guarantee it to arrive in time for the holidays. This is a special internet offer you will not find this offered on TV or in your local stores. Offer good until supplies run out. All moneys collected will be used to feed Mojo and Gracie.

Hey Mike: I have noticed it as well. Below about 45 degrees the Magnum just doesn't want to start. FULL BATTERY CHARGE is required. All summer long one touch on the starter and she cranks right up but 2 winters now the same problem when it turns cold. I ended up putting a bathroom heater next to it and do a pre-warm up before I crank it. That works fine but I would be afraid to drive it somewhere and leave it sit for too long for fear I couldn't get it restarted in the cold weather. I'm considering a block heater option but haven't done so because I'm not entirely sure temp is the culprit.

I think your idea of a higher amp battery will address that, amps..

I recommend trying to start it then check the plug, see if it is wet or dry. The fuel ratio mixuture plays a big roll when starting if it is to lean or to rich it will take a lot of cranks to make it fire. It should fire at least on the second hit of the starter if all is well in the cold. The first will get the gas pumping into the carb if it has been sitting for a while without starting the second hit should at least attempt to fire. Although if the battery is down more than 80% then it does not have enough power to turn the starter fast enough, so more cranking amps works wonders as well. Alleyoop

GER: I say forget the scooter and hook up a sled to the 2 "HORSE" you have...probably faster anyway. ALLEY: If I put a charger on the battery (or leave battery tender on it) she will fire right up, but if I don't it will crank and crank when it's cold.. I think I'm going to design new battery box that will accomodate a larger battery with more amps.

Hi Lee, If it cranks and cranks I bet it is to LEAN don't forget it needs a lot more fuel when it is cold, that is why it needs to be turned over a lot faster for it to fire. Alleyoop

Well today was a bitter day here in CHI windy and I mean wind chill had to be in the 20s it was chilly willy. I pulled out my car and move the trike out and started it and let it warm up while I had a smoke. Then I changed the oil on it since it had about 700 miles since last change. My hands actually were freezing cause I had one of the garage doors open and the wind was whipping inside. Started the trike and let it run for about minute and then topped it off and rolled it back into it's spot in front of my wifes card pulled my car back in closed the garage door and went back in and made myself a nice hot cup of coffee. We use the TASSIMO machine and Tassimo T-Discs that is some good coffee. Alleyoop

Alley: I changed the fuel to be a little richer. Still had to charge the battery prior to it starting. I even tried it after 2 pumps on the throttle. Voltage on the battery is good (cold cranking amps are pretty poor though). I believe I'm going to cut the bottom out where the battery sits and make an aluminum holder that is wider and deeper so I can put a little bigger battery with more cranking amps. On a second note this is the original battery from the factory.
