Take a look at what some guy on Modern Vespa paid for a Vespa LX 150 with an optional front shock.
Got it from Vespa Dallas who just received 2 this morning and already sold one before I called. White, Bitubo installed free, and to my door for $5600.
Hmmm. Let's see. That's 5 online Chinese 150s-delivered, about 3 2007 JCL 250s from Killer Motorsports or Green Earth Scooters and 2 brand new Kymco Like 200s. I won't go into things like a Kawasaki 250 Ninja, Honda Rebel or CBR 250 all for $4200.
It must be nice to have bucks to burn. Wait! I forgot 2 new CF Moto Fugleys. I guess legendary reliability isn't cheap. Wonder what a new 300 GTV costs? Two Arms and a Neck.

They're cool but not worth that much:
Must be a cult thing for people with money to burn off. I didn't know they're made by Piaggio. Rich

Yeah, Piaggio owns them. The Fly 150 runs a Vespa engine built in China by Zongshen, who builds the whole scooter, and costs $3000. The Fly 150 even has 12" wheels compared to the Vespa's 10" in back and 11" in front. If I felt the need to spend too much for a 150cc that's what I would buy.

Mrs N has been bugging me to buy a better bike like and say bye to scooters. I countered with Vespa and she about died! Went to Craigs list and found me cheaper hondas suzukies etc. I dont want one I have a hip that does not like to stradle the gas tank. I think C.F. Moto is a good alternative with the F.I. etc. 2 models are just a few inches or MM off of the JCL150C. I could be a good transition if she convinces me. I still am going to do the changes to the JCL but have read that the liquid cooling and FI give roughly 15% better performance. I have gotten used to the 14 inch tires and also the rear disc brake. I think i would escape being part of the other half.

i wonder what a gy6 based scooter could be sold for if it had the very finest quality parts made for frame and engine? better metals and bearings. and come with 180cc or so crank/barrel installed. probably could still get 3 or 4 of them for the price of a vespa. plastics can stay pretty much the same, when you ding them up just order a blue set to replace the red ones you just dinged up.
bikes and scooters can not always be exchanged, some times it is apples and oranges. as far as i am concerned no bike can replace the convenience of a small scooter in town to run up to the quick stop for an arm full of groceries. yea you can hang saddle bags on a bike but they still don't turn as sharp or get into quite as tight a spot as 50 with 10" wheels. and when you hit a mud puddle with the scooter your legs and feet are not out where they get wet. on the highway the advantages are tipped the other way. john

When its all said and done the 150 has better lights and has enough power to run in traffic when I need to. I am afraid of the 10 inch wheels also since I have 13's on the 50. All in all I love the 50 but the 150 is a better choice for the traffic situation around here.

Why bother with 180cc when you can buy water cooled 250s so cheap? Killermotorsports is selling non-current models for under $1550 in both Bali and Reflex replica models-shipped. www.killermotorsports.com/250cc_Scooters_250_Gas_Mopeds_Cheap_250cc_s/406.htmFigure that the thieves at Scooter Depot charge $300 shipping then those 250s are really selling for $1250. I could have three of those for the cost of one Vespa 150 OTD. Yes, I'd have to wrench but even mighty Vespas aren't invulnerable. Plus a 300 Vespa lists for a mind numbing $6000. I could buy four Chinese 250s for that, maybe five after all the OTD costs get dropped on that 300 wonderscoot. www.vespausa.com/scooters.html#!s=overview/gts-300
