So what is the story as to why there seems to be alot of new 2007 scooters on the market. I am curious as to why there would be so many scooters seemingly in some sort of limbo. Were they seized by customs for some reason or what? Does anyone know the real story?

From what I heard the Chinese went crazy manufacturing them because they thought there was going to be a mega run on cheap scooters because of rising gas prices. Also, the Chinese government was trying to juice up their economy even more by infusing money into the factories. The two combined to create a glut of scooters and some of the distributors, like Green Earth, bought warehouses full at dirt cheap prices. They're still selling off those crate bikes and when they say they won't have any more like that when they're gone they're telling the truth. I could be wrong but that's what I was told. Rich

That might be Rich but I think cheap scooters will be with us for a long time. Look at Killer Motor Sports: www.killermotorsports.com/250cc_Scooters_250_Gas_Mopeds_Cheap_250cc_s/406.htmThe 2007 model is $1550, but the current identical is, what?, $1900. Who else sells a scooter that cheap. Even Green Earth and GS Motorworks are selling their current 150s for around $1000. Compare that to the next cheapest 150s from Kymco. The Chinese built Super 8 is $2400, over twice as much. Plus Killer is selling The Bali 250, which I assume is nearly current, at $1550. Highway speed for under $1600. One third the price of a Kymco 250.

Yeah I agree, they're still a steal if you're not afraid to get a wrench out. It was just that back in 2007 and 2008 there was a bit of manufacturing madness and some of the distributors snapped a lot of them up. So many in fact that they're still trying to unload them. I notice Green Earth quit selling the scooters the wife and I bought in 2008 for $699.00:
They must have ran out of that lot and now they're a touch over 1K as you pointed out. They still have the 250cc 2007 they've been hawking for some time:
It's a tad over 15C, probably still have half a trainload left although they say they're running out! Rich

Compared to what your riding is there that much difference between the new and old size? I would really prefer a 250 but they look like boats to me.

I have not rode one yet but the size should be sweet. I am a large guy and it should be awesome. I cannot wait. Doing the PDI and my buddies Mercedes Dealership. Nice clean stocked garage.

Compared to what your riding is there that much difference between the new and old size? I would really prefer a 250 but they look like boats to me. I've just started riding a CF Moto Fashion, it's about as nimble as a bike could be. It does look like a boat sitting next to the 150s in the shop but it sure doesn't ride like one. I can't speak for Trancebear's new scooter but I suspect the experience will be similar.I bought one of those $1550 2007 250's shipped in silver. Should be here REAL soon. It has the 257cc Linhai clone engine. Two of the big complaints about the older models that have been stored waiting for sale are the crud in the crankcase and the deteriorated coolant. I think we all will be interested in what you find there. If it was my bike I'd pull the plug at some point and squirt a little oil down on top of the piston. Then turn the motor by hand several times to get some lubricant down around the rings. I'm sure whatever was there has drained away. Rich

My hunch is that the" 07s" that are being sold now were actually built later.... and there is probably some loop-hole somewhere that says anything manufactured from 2008 and on is required to meet some gov't standard. Just a hunch. Call it my conspiracy theory.

COOKEES, i like that scenario.
it's really hard to believe that the sellers would be able to survive a few credit card reversals for selling a scooter that was totally gunked up with solidified cooking grease or what ever that shipping oil is. an 07 could be up to 5 years old right now. a little cheating on import regs. makes a ot of sense. it would be totally stupid to hold a scooter in a warehouse 5 years just for the hell of it, or to have lost a shipment that long too. john

I believe that my 07 is most likely a 2009 or 2010 that was just labeled a 2007 for some strange reason but I will find out for sure later today when the truck comes.

I haven't uncrated it yet, came too late but this scooter was crated in 2009 as per the markings on the crate. We will see when I get it over to the dealership to assemble this beast.
