We all know the scooters are relative cheap and built on a budget. intentions are to take the JCL 150 up in dependability and a little more performance, verses a bigger bike because the bigger bikes just do not appeal to me. Basis of upgrades better tires, replacement of the exhaust and intake with appropriate rejet. Suspension: Heaver oil in the front shocks, with additional spacers to slightly stiffen the front, heavier shocks rear. Final drive: better variator and slightly lower G.rollers, Heavier clutch springs, this is because I allready have experienced clutch grab and jerk on damp mornings, and higher gears for highway running. Bike came with non plastic intake tube, good belt, and good plug. Additional comment, frame under plastics is perfectly placed to install a strong cross bar to attach hiway pegs to streach the legs. I've allready figured this out and it seems a better attachment than the way Jay did his. OK guys & gals, open to suggestions what have I missed? Yep I know jack up the gas cap and put a Vespa 300 under it.

Did you redo all the electrical connections? That's a weak spot for dependability on these things. A lot of guys replace the CDI and coil with the orange variety, not because of performance but because of durability. Scrappy told me that on the phone, he seemed sincere about it. Of course the fuel and vacs all have to be swapped out, I'm sure you know that. Oddly, my Bashans seem to have bullet proof engines and CVTs, that particular build seemed to have good stuff there, I've never had to mess with repairs. The electricals sucked, at least on mine, the wife's has been totally trouble free...go figure. Rich

Rich, did all the electricals when I got it. Thats when I discovered when JCL went to post turn signals they abandoned turn signals enclosed in red plastic, but left the wiring bulbs and all intact. I tied the old t.signal lights to brake lights and can lite the moon. all other electricals were good, except rear lights ground inside the shrink tubing which has been fixed. Fuel lines etc are done. Im questioning myself right now if the egr junk is beneficial. No emissions here. Thanks I forgot the CDI. As mentioned clutch grabs when its been damp, so bye bye clutch. Thanks for the input.

What is your views on heavier clutch springs? I have a set of 2k springs that I am scared to install, people say it is bad. At this point I am going to try a set. The grabbing from moisture is a pain, and is causing a jerking start when first starting out in the mornings, which is bad at a stop sign when in traffic. I figure its worth a try. I initially thought it was the rear disc doing it because the trailer the bike is parked in was sloping down slightly and I was bungee cording the rear disc brake to keep it stable. I have now leveled the trailer and it still does it on damp mornings. Last thing I need is for it to grab and let go pulling out in front of a cement mixer or even worse some Woman on her Cell Phone!!

every thing I have read and going by my experience if you take the clutch off and sand the drum...and..the pads this grabbing thing goes away. when I put a belt on my majesty I was getting all kinds of grabbing and noises and erratic operation when clutch was engaging. it was like a brand new machine when I put it back together and ran it. I think I used 80 grit sand paper and cleaned all the old surface off both clutch drum and the pads. I live on a dusty dirty road and between that getting in and the normal junk coming off the belt and the worn out rollers the belt case was full of powdery junk. and of course it was blown out and cleaned thoroughly john

Im questioning myself right now if the egr junk is beneficial. [/b][/quote] I removed the vapor canisters and EGRs (actually P.A.I.R.) from all of my scooters except the Fashion and I just haven't got around to it yet. I think they're just one big gob of potential vacuum leaks and junk up the engine compartment. You can block off the P.A.I.R. unit at the head with a little plate or leave the last little compartment on which has a reed valve and plug the hose. Sprocket is not a big fan of doing this but my personal feeling is that it either didn't affect the performance or maybe helped some. Rich

All the heavier springs are going to do for you is REQUIRE higher rpms for the pads to be thrown out. So for example if currently the Clutch pads are thrown out at 2500 rpms putting on 2000k springs the Clutch pads will be thrown out around 4000-4500 rpms. If the pads are glazed it will do the same thing then as well. You just need to scrap up the pads a little and rough up the bell a little with some heavy grit sandpaper.
I don't think you will like the heavy Clutch springs because just cruising around at 30 or so mph you will have to keep your rpms up. Alleyoop

What Im not understanding is it does it after it has rained overnight but the bike is parled in my enclosed bike trailer that has a protected roof vent. After it has a few miles on it it stops grabbing. I have checked and there is no oil or grease on the faces of the pads. Im wondering if the pads were not cured properly and are absorbing moisture out of the air. This is a strange one. The other posibility is the trailer was on a slight incline and I was setting the rear brake and holding with a bungee overnight, but there is no noise from the pad when I take ithe bike out in the morning. I have now leveled the trailer and not setting the brake, Ill watch it now that it is level and see if the problem goes away. LOL dont forget the Golden Corral scam tomorrow.
