so I had some trouble with a 4pin regulator awhile back . I never figured it out . Someone suggested upgrading to 11pole and 7pin regulator . That mod was for HID lights , it did not matter to me I don't care for HID lights . So my charging problems were solved with the upgrade .
Well the cold weather is was on its way , so I decided to give the Gerbings a try . I had tested the 11pole output , I found that it could put out 125w and still have enough to be on the positive side for charging/running . So I pulled my 2 35w headlight bulbs and replaced with led headlights . I changed every other bulb to led . So I have the full 125w for the heated clothing .
So yesterday I connected the plug to the battery pluged it all together . With my meter connected the gloves and the jacket to the controller turned it on all the way up . My charging voltage went from 14.3vdc it dropped to 12.8vdc for about 3 or 4 seconds the jacket and gloves got nice and hot , the voltage went back uo to about 13.3 to 14vdc . It got to a point that it was too warm , I lowered it and started riding , I had to turn it off after a few miles .
Next week I should have the insoles for my feet I can't wait .
So I figured out a trick to help the charging system at 15 to 18 hundred rpm my charging voltage sits at about 13.3 v , If I push it up to about 22 or 23 hundred rpm the voltage comes up to about 14vdc and that is where it sits (idle charging) . I know others will disagree . My clutch is not engaging , it engages at about 34 hundred rpm . If I wanted to give myself a better edge for charging I could push the idle to 31 hundred rpm .
later today I plan to go for a ride on 495 at hwy speed .

I pulled the clutch sanded the bell and pads , rechecked the variator rollers . I went for a ride that was not it . Yesterday I found the exaust valve was very tight , I adjusted it . I went for a ride , not enough space too tell .
Tomorrow will be nice and cold will be a great way to test the heated clothing .

John, did you pull the springs off of the clutch pads and make sure they're moving freely? I had one of the pads hung up once and it was keeping the clutch from engaging until the RPMs got really up there. Have you ever seen Heated Clothing Outlet? You can get some great deals on heated bike clothing but the catch is they don't have all sizes, there are small defects, and there's no returns. They work fine but they may have a flaw in the stitching or something along those lines. I got some Gerbing's socks through them which are compatible with the Tourmasters I use. If I have everything turned on, jacket, pants, gloves, and socks, it'll draw the battery down on my Vulcan 1500 below 12v after a 45 minute ride to work. I shut everything off about 10 minutes before getting there to charge the battery back up. I sometimes put a Battery Tender Junior on the battery all day while I'm at work if it's too cold to turn them off. I have an adapter that plugs the charger into the coax plug that the clothes plug into. I know the Fashion couldn't keep up with that draw down so I'm trying to figure out a way to work around that. There's something about riding in the winter that really blows my skirt up. I think it's the challenge of defeating the elements. Rich

Rich if you heat the items one at a time it wont load your voltage down . It seems it pulls a lot to get it hot . Then just pulses to keep it warm . I bought the dual controller so the gloves are seperate from the jacket liner . I start with the jacket about 20 seconds till I feel the heat , then I turn on the gloves . I don't know what your wearing for your ride . I'm using my rain suite as a wind breaker . I will need another layer on my legs . up top Just a long sleeve shirt jacket liner and rain jacket , fullface and balaklava . 42 or 43 degrees it been great . Tommorrow will be in the 30's .
I hope your riding with clean panties , road rash is one thing , skid marks is another dimension !!!

26 degrees in NYC I went for about a 2 hour ride , toasty warm , my feet are frozen !!!! I hope the insoles get here soon .
The little scooter battery didn't feel like cranking this morning , and the kick shaft decided to strip also . I hooked it up to the charger , it did not want to start . I took a paper coffee cup and put it over the pod filter and still had to crank it many many times . I thikn I will remove the pet cock and put a fuel pump in or just make a gravity feed . I switched to the voyager it started much better , it also has a much larger battery .

My heated clothes system runs through one controller on the jacket. Consequently I don't have the option of heating parts of the suit separately. It's a lot easier to operate that way but it can be a PITA if one part is getting too warm. I can use separate controllers but it gets too clumsy for me. I can't walk and chew gum at the same time. well as far as clutch engage, my 50cc doesn't engage till just under 4k. I do like the idea of an HID kit, any one know of any?

If it is cold enough for heated clothing I need to either be drinking coffee looking out the window or in my boat trolling for stripers! john
