As this surly mechanic rasped at me in Atlanta a long time ago "anything can break!". He didn't have a great bed side manner. They both can be faulty but it sounds like the pickup coil. When a bad one gets hot it quits sending a pulse to the CDI and poof, no more spark. The best way to check that is put a multi on the pickup coil wire while it's hot and see what the voltage is. I'm not sure what it is on that bike but it's usually .05v AC or higher. Here's a tutorial that covers that about halfway down. Rich

Bashan has it. Check just like you would a cold no spark except while it is hot.
