I thought I might do a posting to update the others on how things are going with my stella 2T scoot. I am most likely the only scooter who has this type of scooter on the forum at this moment. It has been just over 4 months since my Roketa was totaled by an errant driver who cut me off . 1 week after the accident I had the chance to get a Stella at a really good price and went for it. Yes, I could have gotten a nice new twist and go but I chose to go with a scoot with abit more old style class . I got a 04 stella 2T . JFYI The Stella 2T is basicly a vespa PX series that is made in India. There is a huge parts interchangablity between the italian made Vespa PX series and the indian LML made Stella2T. That is a very good thing in my book. As of this moment I am averaging about 70 to 71mpg on the 2 cycle powered scoot . The carb automaticaly mixes the 2 cycle oil at a set rate. It is one less hassel to deal with. The old vespas required you to do that manualy with a little oil measuring cup. The Stella 2T and Vespa P and PX series scoots have a 1qt 2 cycle oil tank that is below the fuel tank. Trust me on this ,it has been one doesey of a learning curve since I started riding it in Dec. No more easy twist and go like on the gy6 powered scoots. This is a totally different ballgame !! The shifting is manual by the left hand and wrist. What was my rear brake lever is now my clutch lever on the left hand side . Talk about letting go of the clutch when reving the engine high . It doesn't take much to pop a wheelie on a vespa or stella when doing that. Rear brake ? The rear brake is located on the right floorboard . Why the italians put it there is beyond my comprehension. The fuel system is totally different aswell. It isn't pressurized as on a chi com scoot. Its all gravity fed . There is about 1ft total of hose going from the fuel petcock to the carb. The shifting between gears has been an issue of sorts for me. I'm finaly getting the hang of how little or how too much it can take to mis shift between the 4 gears . Going from 3rd to 1st isn't real great on the crussform , clutch and gears . I am improving with each day I ride. Learning to ride a vespa or Stella takes abit of time if all of your previous riding expierence has been on the chi com twist and go scoots. At least now I don't have to worry too much about a drive belt snapping when at 40+mph or accidently running out of 4 cycle oil from an unknown leak . I will admit that the seats on a stella are not as comfy as a roketa or other chi com scoot. The shocks are not as cushony either when going over rough terain . That I can handle . Well great post Will! That was very informative. I had no idea the shift was operated like that. I guess when you were describing it to me I couldn't get the motorcycle concept out of my head and still equated it with the left foot lever. Yep, that would be a challenge trying to learn a completely new shifting method.
Those two strokes will pop the front wheel, there's no doubt about that. They deliver power on every downstroke of the crank making them more efficient in delivering power. You get more horsepower/cc and better gas mileage. They'd use them a lot more but the emissions requirements are forcing them out of use. FYI, the big diesels that power trains are two cycle. Can you imagine that puppy?!
OK, since the table is open for questions....you shift with a combination of pulling the clutch handle with your left hand and twisting the same grip. I got that....kinda. So what transfers the power to the rear wheel? There's no CVT but is it still a belt or do they use a chain?
And yes, you are DEFINATELY the only guy on the forum to have a scooter like that. Rich

The transmission on a Vespa or Stella 2T is all gear ratio's .No belts or no chains inside . There are 3 gear areas that comprises the entire transmission mechanism . Each has a specific ratio . The final gearing selector for the 4 speed tranny is on the end of the rear wheel axle. There are 2 cables that operate that. I'll get some pictures posted as soon as I can to show this . shalom72c - I ride a Stella as well. Personally I prefer gears to a twist and go... but that's just me. Ironic, isn't it considering my company's focus? I think the most fun thing is 65mph on 10 in wheels. Makes for a lively ride. Also keep in mind that it is a good idea to add a little bit of oil to your fuel tank with each fill up on one of these scooters, particularly if you spend any time at WOT. The Auto Lube system is just a bit lean and no-one likes a soft-seize. Matt

Thankyou for the tip Matt !! Right now I am in the short hop trip mode ( errands and speeds under 50mph) . Yes , I am glad I am not the only Stella (Vespa) "gear head" in the forum . It is fun running through the gears . How long have you had your scoot and when did you get it ? willc.
