This is my first posting here in a very long time. So here is an update on my project. The engine has been running relatively well since being built. The cylinder head had to be replaced 2 seasons ago. Last spring I decided to try a Cosa type clutch. This type of clutch was an upgrade from the standard clutch basket and has 8 smaller springs but uses similar cork clutch plates. Using the stock clutch was getting to be a bit of a pain when riding about Boise. Having had 2 standard type clutches in row come apart inside the clutch area, I decided after digging on the issue online that I needed something that would be a bit more rigid and durable. The outer edges on the standard clutch baskets I was using that held the retaining circlip were opening out, causing the clutch to come apart. This was most likely due to the high centrifugal forces during high speed operation @ 50+mph. The cosa type clutches are built a bit differently but interchangeable with the large frame clutch's I had previously been using. After getting it installed I noticed a huge difference concerning the clutch. The clutch is actually a bit easier to activate and less tiring to use compared to the stock 7 spring clutch I previously used. Also I don't have to use the old castle type nut that bolts the clutch to the crankshaft. The cosa clutch uses a flange type nut instead that uses a standard metric socket instead of a special tool to tighten or remove the castle nut commonly used on the older vespa scooters. One less special tool to pack around in my scooters glove box. The scooters frame now has 11,000 + miles on the odometer . Not a pretty as she was when I got her but still putting along with maintenance when needed. What I am hoping with the cosa clutch I am now using is that I won't have to replace the clutch cable as much like I used to with the older style clutch I was using. They were snapping every so often due to the high tension on them. There is less tension on the cable now with the cosa installed. More as thing scoot along. willc. One other note : The cats still run the house!

This time I did things the right way concerning the cylinder head. The scoots carb has been a bit of a headache for me still. Friday I had to pull the idle and main jet stacks out , blow the carb out, then the jets then reassemble to get the scoot to run right. Next item on list to deal with is rebuilding the clutch assembly. Its making a racket when using it. The scoot has been having a slight slip while in 2nd and 3rd gears. The center spring pressure plate I am planning on using will have a bearing instead of the stock brass bushing. The bottom of the spring retention plate will still have the brass washer type thing. The bearing was purchased from SIP in Germany a couple of years back and I forgot I had it. Hopefully the clutch rebuild parts will be here by Wednesday. More later! willc.

P200E Cracked Cylinder Head ! How I have no idea . The issue started to cause small problems that ended up with the cylinder head into 2 pieces . The engine started sounding off and as time progressed the idle went away .Finally on the way to a dr apt ( Tuesday June 28th) the head finished cracking and left me broke down half way to the doctors office. I thought the head wasn't torqued down . When I pulled the cylinder cooling shroud off I then saw what had happened. Geico's customer service saved the day and about an hour later the towing truck they sent picked me and the scoot up for the ride back home. After browsing for an hour or so trying to see what a new one would cost ( some sites $120++) I went with Scooter Mercato and paid $70 for a new replacement oem head. I also ordered a new gasket set for the engine aswell. One never knows when they might need them . Total with usps priority shipping was about $90-$100 to Boise from Georgia . The parts finally came in on Friday and things went as hoped with the installation. It ( the scoot) was quickly back on the road as I need it to be . The head that cracked was used when I bought it when I first assembled the engine a few years back. I got 2-3000 miles before it failed. That was acceptable with me. I'll post a few photos later tonight of what happened. willc.

Even a Caveman Could do It ! I agree with Cyborg , I would try doing it yourself first. There should be a manual with a parts listing and diagram online. Getting a shop manual for your scoot is a big help especially for those who have never torn into their scooters before. The worst you could do is have to take it to the shop for them to finish what you started. willc.

OK my 2 cents worth since I do ride a licensed Vespa PX series copy with a Vespa 200cc 2 cycle engine under the seat ( home built): Older Vespa's are in a class of its own ! It's what got the scooter scene going for the masses long ago. The newer 4 cycle vespas are a different matter . Having previously had a Chinese 4 cycle scoot I'll stick with the older Vespa's for now . Especially after having put my 2T down ( accident) and picking it right up afterwards and keep going with only slight metal damage to the scoot itself . Something Taiwanise and Chinese scoots can't get close to when in an accident . willc.

I have seen plenty of refugees here from the Peoples Republic of California over the years ! Many of them moving in . Poor people ! Little do they realize the home of the frozen french-fry is not as they were in in California long ago. We do things much differently here. Soon they will be packing the largest 45 they can and not get shot at for doing so . I am fortunate to live where I am at. willc.

Hi Guys ! Just beware of what ethanol will do to the needle valve in the carb. Sooner or later you will want to replace it. I had to do a carb rebuild last week after having had enough of flooding my engine one too many times due to that issue. It is doing much better after the rebuild with some air fuel screw adjustments. A good friend who is a Stella and Vespa owner worked with me on that issue last Thursday. willc.

Hi everyone ! I hope your getting decent scooting weather to ride in! It has been a rough month but I'm hanging in there. I've been riding the stella a good bit this spring. Last Thursday a fellow scootist helped me deal with my on going carb flooding issues that was literally driving me up the wall. In the end I took parts from a new cheap spaco carb and rebuilt the old si 24/24e . So far it has behaved itself. Having to kick start 20+ times to get a flooded Vespa engine to start is no fun ! This afternoon I finally found the gy6 parts I had stored away in my closet last year. They are available for sale . These parts includes a GY6 150cc cylinder , cylinder head with egr valve and cover, valve rocker arm assy and some other small parts. . If interested send a pm with a good offer. They are of no use to me since my scoot takes Vespa p px series parts. Ok i'll keep this short. Happy Scooting !! will c.

Ack Up late ! On a personal note I do miss Rich. He was a 1 of a kind guy whom hopefully is in a better place. His phone calls with computer related questions I miss the most. The scooting weather here hasn't exactly been the greatest. Last night was t-storms. I finally restarted the scoot after not running it for close to 2 weeks. It took only 3 kicks to get it going with choke. That's been the usual for it since the engine was built unless its flooded . Eventually the carb is on the list to be replaced. Here in Idaho our vehicle and motorcycle license fee's went up . $45 for registering just the scoot this year. My car tags were well over $75 for 1 year. Up $25 from the year before the new fee's kicked in. It's supposed to pay for the needed road repairs and bridges that need fixed or replaced. OK done qvetching. Hope all is doing ok . Bug U later ! will

Hi everyone ! Nope I'm still alive and kicking here in Boise!! I apologize for not keeping up as I previously had many century's ago. Things have been getting a bit busy here from time to time. The Stella 2T with the 200cc engine I built still runs for the moment even tho I have not spent much time riding on it in the last year or so. More will come in more posts. I'm still pretty much active with my ham radio stuff right now especially during the summer months. Current issues I am dealing with on the scoot is primarily electrical. In the next couple of weeks I am looking @ getting a replacement wiring harness for it. I've been having issues with the battery keeping charged. Add 2 different new voltage regulators and stator . This has been sort of a headache for me and has kept me from riding as much as I would have liked. The engine runs strong still . The only real options I have at the moment is to rewire the scoot as a p series with no electric start but with support for a battery. I'll keep the forum posted as things move along. The headlight and taillight still work but no signals due to the electrical issues. AS far as the gy6 parts, I do have them still but it may take a day or two to dig them out. My closet is packed full to the top of it. Laptop parts have taken over my apartment. Just over a year ago I moved to a smaller apartment and space is @ a premium. Ok I have bored you all enough! Bug U later ! will c.
