So what's the verdict on the shifter? I figured an old crotch rocket jock like yourself wouldn't be happy without a peg shift.

Still a few false neutrals here and there but as it's breaking in and getting more loose and me getting more used to it ,,, the shifting is getting close to be second nature,,, altho I have a few gears in my head turning on a floorboard shifter,,, it wouldn't be that hard actually,,, the idea is almost a gimme

As a side note I was thinking a modified air shifter would fit the bill

Happily nothing but good to report again for the Stella ,, two clutch cables one original another low grade replacement that lasted 3 weeks and another hi quality replacement from beedspeed that's working well,,, and the brake switch that quit on me,,, a little contact cleaner and it's up and running again but have two solid metal replacements waiting In case it decides to take a vacation again,,, next time it will be permanent ,, 2000 miles and the rear tire looks as new,,, next oil change it's pipe and carb time,,, so looking forward to the (claimed) 20% power increase ( we'll see about that one)

Cool ! It took me a while to get used to my Stella 2T's 4 speed tranny as well . Having gone from the Chinese "twist and go" scoots to the Vespa type shifters it was real kick in the pants at first. I can't remember how many wheelies I did when letting the clutch out too fast while revving the engine too high ! Yes , you can pop wheelies on an older Vespa type tranny and clutch setup ! With the 4T's , when you do upgrade the pipe make sure you check and adjust the main and idle jets in the carb. You have to do that on the older 2T's and 2 cycle Vespa carbs ! willc.

I'm changing the carb also Will,, it's 3mm larger and has an accelerator pump and is prejetted for sea level and a couple more sets for altitude,,, I'm using the Tasso carb and pipe instead of the pinasco setup,,, half the weight and less than half the cost and very similar performance gains,,, if it does what the company says power increase wise I'll get a taller trans gear set,,, first is real low and almost useless, it's no rocket anyways so I'll go with a wide ratio set,,, still looking to get a second one and leave it in the crate,,,, or if I'm lucky a 4t with a blown mill for cheap and do what you did and build a nasty a$$ two stroke
