10W40.. or whatever your manual says...change the gear oil too (75W90). Use synthetic gear oil but stay with dino engine oil until 500 miles then switch to full synthetic if you want...
750 mls only.. not a full quart

>>>Will I have headaches installing a uni and adding a free flow exhaust?
You will be up jetting for sure... you go up 2 sizes for the uni and two for the FF exhaust... those jets will get you in the ball part...then you need to fine tune the sizes. You will need to make a bracket for the carb
You may get a bit of top end 5-8 mph ... hard to say...

Sproket, the tech at the place where I bought the bike says to use 10W30. Not sure it says in the manual what to use. I think it doesn't. As far as gear oil, he says to change it after 1000 miles to 8090. I am only approaching 100 miles. What do you think?

Actually the manual says to use 15W40 SF so I guess that's what I have to go with...

Go with the manual if you can find that oil but don't overthink these things. There are not titanic forces going on in these little guys so there's wiggle room. They do run kinda hot so check your oil often and make sure it's not hinky. But other than that the oil is not going to blow the engine up if it's not exactly the manufacturers spec. What Sprocket is running is not spec and it works fine. I ran Mobile synthetic turbodiesel in one of my Bashans for a while and it was fine. I switched back to conventional and it still doesn't burn oil. Here's the Scooter Doc GY6 Manual. I asked a bunch of dealers what they thought about engine oil. It's right at the start of the manual, read it over, you'll be surprised at the variety of opinions.
Bashan, what immediate benefits do I get from swapping out the air filter? Well you'd get rid of the big ugly airbox but you'd have to deal with swapping out jets. The only reason I brought that up is because you were talking about replacing the carb. Really, I think you should just ride it for a while and get used to scooters. Think about changing things up in 6 months or so. Rich

I put the first 100 miles on it pretty fast, and I can't help but feel that I might be putting too much pressure on this little engine. I love riding, and want to use the bike whenever I can to run errands around town, etc. This bike I think rides more like a motorcycle than a scooter and the style has a lot to do with it. But this bike's purpose is to prepare me for something bigger and better down the line...

No, you're not, they buzz and whine and talk to you, that's just the way they are. They are not designed for constant wide open throttle (WOT) so don't run them like that. If you want more than 45-50 MPH to get around town with some WOT bursts to 55, then get a 250. It may ride like a MC but that's a scooter under the plastic. Rich
