My scooter still does not have the take-off power that I think it should have . I have the gy6 long case set up and I'm running the shorter belt , I forget the size ,but it is the shorter belt. I started with a 13g weight it wouldn't even spin a tire on wet grass ,know I have a 11g weight it has helped very little if any . When I look at some of the variator kits I see shims in the kits . What part does these shims play ? My belt does not set all the way on the top of the clutch pulley . It sets about 1/8 to a 1/4 in deep in the clutch pulley . Am I losing the low end power because of this ? Or do I need some of the shims to make the belt set right in the bottom of variator next to the boss ? I bought the scooter used and on the very first ride the belt broke in to pieces and things have not been the same since ,before the belt broke it had great power . Thanks for any help.

The belt on the Clutch pulley they usually sit about 1/8 or so from the top of the pulley, so that does not appear to be the problem. What are your RPMs when the scoot first starts to move? Also what is your top end speed and at what RPMS?
Shims are used to WIDEN the distance between the Fan Face and the Variator, actually making the boss LONGER which in turn will make it loose TOP END.
Did the belt shred when it broke? did you clean out the Clutch and the Variator? Alleyoop

I thought the 842-20-30 and the 835-20-30 belts would interchange .

On a long case you can use either one, The 835 is about 1/4 inch shorter than the 842. Many of the scoot long case come with the 835 and some put in the 842 hopeing to get it to climb a little higher for more top end.
BUT REDRIDER you did not answer my questions, need to know what your RPMS are at because that will tell if maybe your motor is low on compression. Alleyoop

Yes the belt shredded and I replaced the variator because it had some cooling fins broke and I completely took the clutch apart and cleaned the belt pieces from there too. The scooter starts to move at about 2000-2500 rpms . The variator and weights and the belt is all that has been changed . The big clutch springe is the same.

Well that is good that it start to move little over 2000 rpms my Trike I have it so it starts to move right around 2200-2300 rpms. What rpms does it run at Wide Open Throttle. Do you feel any slipping maybe the Clutch is slipping on you the PADS on the Clutch may be glazed and need a little sanding to take the glaze off and a little sanding inside the Bell where the Pads grab. I have sanded the clutch bell and made it all shiny and sanded the glaze off the clutch pads. The rpms max at 7200 .

Well I think your asking to much then bud. You either go with great take offs and loose top end or great top end and less take off or go inbetween WHICH by your rpms you are there already. To get quicker take offs the only thing you can do is either put in Lighter weights or a stronger Contra Spring BUT REMEMBER all that is going to do is REQUIRE more RPMS to move the scoot. So instead of the scoot moving at 2500 you can get it to move anywhere from 3000 to 4500 rpms. Then the power will be up and it will move it out quicker. Alleyoop

But it was perfect that very first night I got it Al . I had been across town and back almost home and the belt broke . There is a good size hill on the way to my brothers house zip zip right over the hill , belt broke ever since zip zip is gone. It's great on the top end , take off and hills are a shame . It's no low end power .

Well if it was ok then and you changed the variator and cleaned out the clutch. I would say Something is wrong with the contra Spring in the CLUTCH and it is opening to quick or it broke when the belt broke and making the belt drop down and that is why it is gooin on the top end but no power on the low end. So I would check the Contra Spring. Alleyoop
