I was riding my Fashion home from work one evening and noticed the exhaust suddenly got louder. I was on an extended 70 MPH stretch so I thought maybe I blew a baffle. While working on my CVT I discovered the P.A.I.R. pollution device canister had discombobulated:
The hose I have my finger on in the above picture runs to this reed valve off of the exhaust:
After taking the valve apart I discovered it had vaporized allowing the hot gasses into the canister:
So I cut the mounting butt off of the valve and made a small aluminum blocking plate:
Then I cut some exhaust gasket to fit:
Here's the P.A.I.R. pipe with the reed valve removed:
Then I bolted the blocking plate and gasket on with some Permatex Copper:
You've got to make sure you block off the vac lines you're not using:

Ya you got kinda lucky on that deal rich. The PAIR on my little 50 is set up with just the reed valve block then runs to the intake right after the filter. I'll bet that scooter was making the harly riders take a 2ed look, that is if it was as loud as my 50 when i took it off just for testing. Bad thing is, if the next door neighbor's Crank up that rap music and 'P' me off.. i know just what kinda scooter testing i might need to RECHECK.

Mine was set up to pulse fresh air just into the exhaust to facilitate burning unspent fuel. It didn't run to the intake at all. The vacuum line opened a valve and air was pulled in from the open hose, through the canister, and into the exhaust. Things went to hell when the blown out reed valve let the exhaust into the canister:
And yes, it was very noisy. It was cool at first but started to grate on my nerves. I can't complain about the CF Moto build being at fault. I know the thing wasn't designed for extended 70 MPH runs. I've hit 75 with it and could probably go faster but that gets a little hairy. Rich
