I guess. My understanding, which is limited, is that replacing the left case is a big job - will entail new rings (maybe pistons?), etc. IS there a way to replace the case that fairly easily for a non-mechanic (with tools, though). hahahaha take this question to ally he will have a lot to say better then me.

I just found this welding product that might be useful. Thinking of using this to attached a steel barrel/socket to replace the broken one. What do you guys think? www.aluminumrepair.com/Got to say the product looks really good. You have nothing to loose but the cost of the product. Putting on a new case is NOT for the faint of hearts. Take a picture of where it is broken if its in the middle of the case there is nothing between the Tranny and the Crankcase it is just support material. So depending on where it broke it may be a good try to weld it with that product. Alleyoop

That welding product isn't as easy as they make it look.I bought a pack of 6 sticks from J.C. Whitney for around $10.00 and tried it on a ladder and a storm window with no results.Alluminum has to be ultra clean,no corrossion the corrosiom melts at higher temp. It's hard to tell how hot the piece is because it doesn't get cherry red.I may not have had the right kind of torch too.But he fix will have to be alligned with the cover or it my break again trying to get the cover on again.I was lucky and I only split the socket on mine. Probably becuase the spark plug was removed.I have 60 miles on the odometer now and no problem so far.

. It may have been the material I was welding. You may have better luck on die cast alluminum than with a hard alluminum.

how do you see replacing the left case as needing an engine rebuild? o have replaced one after it cracked and i did not have to rebuild the engine. Call it what you want, but you're still splitting the case.
