it breaks off your inner soccet that holds kick axle in.
outer cover keeps the axle stable.
I just did this and only way to replace that little socket is new engen.
I was half a sleep when i did this, will never go near a bike on sunday again.

Damn Bro, be cool don't go near a vehicle on a Sunday, you should just stay in bed and sleep it off. Well know with the damn thing heating up and having a bad carb and now a broken left caseing I think its time for a new motor. It will cost you more to repair the damn thing and a lot more time. Or you can take the kickstart crap out and hope that it will always start with the electric start. Or you can get someone to do Aluminum welding and fit the socket the shaft goes in. Alleyoop

I had the same trouble.First scooter, brand new.I had the spark plug out and the variator cover off.I just wanted to lube the cylinder.I had to use a flat paint stick stir to push the kick starter gear into place so the cover would line up with the gear shafts.I was lucky to get the cover back on.I haven't tried to use the kick start since then.

Bikedown...
Misery loves company. I just did the same exact thing! No excuses - a moment of stupidity.
From looking at my crankcase, it looks a bit like plastic, so I wonder of there is any welding fix possible.
What dod you figure out (other than ditching the kickstarter altogether).
Anyone have any ideas?

I guess. My understanding, which is limited, is that replacing the left case is a big job - will entail new rings (maybe pistons?), etc. IS there a way to replace the case that fairly easily for a non-mechanic (with tools, though).

Honestly... you have a few options: - Live without a kick start. - Replace the left case... basically an engine rebuild would be required. - Replace the whole motor. Not exactly the most cost effective, but probably the easiest way a non mechanic is going to get it done.
I'd recommend just removing the kick start all together and living without. I do. It has bit me in the bum a few times, but I've learned to deal with it.

Yeah the CVT cover case is the pivot for the kickstarter
Is the case badly damaged? are you leaking oil? Is it cracked?
If not just remove the 3 pieces of the kickstarter and carry a second battery so when your battery dies you have a spare to run the starter motor
Cost about $40...
The case by the way the cases are die cast aluminum.. quite brittle..

Thanks. I guess I will live without it, and probably will carry a .5 amp charger and hope I'll be near an outlet when I need one!

how do you see replacing the left case as needing an engine rebuild? o have replaced one after it cracked and i did not have to rebuild the engine.

I just found this welding product that might be useful. Thinking of using this to attached a steel barrel/socket to replace the broken one. What do you guys think? www.aluminumrepair.com/

I realized later i have almost never used the kick start so i am glad to be rid of it. at 14,000 miles . when this bike gos down again my friend will walk it to his house for 700 bucks and own the classic frame and style this is the big long case, it did not hurt a thing, no oil leaks, and if i don't talk to you again, ride safe brother, and know your always in my best wishes and have a double white russian for me.
