This is funny because i just posted the bike is at 14,000 miles and falling apart, and to day a new issue, of something that is broke. I just got the carb cleaned and engine rolling, start down the street with the cvt cover off, and again i m back at half power/speed engine is fine, but i am only getting half speed and a clang clang clang can this be variator or most likely the clutch has dangling shoe cause i don't see how a variator could make that sound. and is there a way to check and thank you for everyones ideas on this

well just put it on the center stand and you should be able to tell where the clanging is coming from. half speed only could be the Variator and or clutch, also the weights do make a racket when worn or the guides are toast and its metal to metal from the Variator. Alleyoop

cause this is a ding ding ding sound.
pads look good, so what goes wrong with a clutch

Nope, no easy way but to take if off and check and might as well take the clutch off and check your clutch pads maybe a spring broke. Alleyoop

is there a way the vari can cut the bike to half speed almost instantly, Yes it can. If a roller got out of place it will keep the pulley face from moving over all the way and you're stuck in a lower gear. But everything the guys said is true, you should pull your CVT cover, put it on the centerstand, and give it some RPMs. You should be able to see something hinky. Rich

Many people might have noticed the term “continuously variable transmission” as well as other buzzwords being bandied about regarding automotive transmissions. There is nothing magical about them, but there are some basic differences individuals should be aware of. Automobile transmissions used to come in two flavors: manual and automatic. However, some may have noticed a greater variety these days, as paddle-operated automatics and continuously variable transmissions are being offered in cars. There are some fundamental differences. You may read further at: Continuously variable and other types of transmissions , so you can get the right transmission.

Clutch springs simply rust through... and snap...or the metal gets fatigued...
If you have 14K on the original variator weights.. look there first...most requires changing at about 5k miles...
