I can't complain, i got 14,000 miles out of it.
2 events-
1. I go to adjust valves and note even at top dead center ,the intake tappet has 1 \6th of a inch play and am amazed in wonder
2 I assume the valve/spring is stuck and push down on the flat round plate that holds the spring in and it ( round plate) pops off and spring comes up to tappet, with tappet threw the middle of plate..
I would really love to know whats going on here as i am amazed first at the TDC leeway on tappet
I have never heard of this, tho xingyues are know for head issues
any one have a guess
and thanks for all the help here

with 14K on it I would guess just wear and tear, you could put on new caps on but with 14k on the motor you have to expect to replace something. And to put on new caps and retainers you will need a way to compress the springs. Alleyoop

I must count my blessings, the bike was only really down one time, in 14,000
and i know a world of things about them now.
plus i am proud as peacehes i got all those miles, many bikes go down at 6000
gotta look on the bright side ya know!
plus i walk over to tell my friend about valve and he says
the only reson his bike runs is me fixing it, and said i could use it carte blance till i get a new one.
there is a law of karma, i just saw it pay back.
thanks everyone

If the engine was over revved the valves can float (cam and valve moving faster than the spring can react), and the keepers can pop out. If keepers pop out the valve can slip down into the combustion chamber(called dropping a valve). If the piston hits the valve it can damage the piston and valve or possibly the rod, cylinder and head. It is also possible the keepers wore through the valve spring retainer, weak or broken springs, or head damage. In any case be sure to locate the keepers. They can cause a lot of damage bouncing around in an engine. Yep, new head is probably the best solution.

Roy I was told stiffer springs or even secondary smaller inner springs being added can help prevent this, the last time i took my engine apart a friend installed better springs and added spring shims.

I wouldn't be happy with a mere 14,000 miles. I don't know how strong you are but I couldn't depress my valve springs enough to cause the keepers to pop out by hand. I broke valve springs but not by hand. Those springs would have had to be wildly defective to lose tension, without breaking, in only 14,000 miles. Maybe they overheated. You didn't do this, did you? scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=49390&page=1

i take spark plug socket and put rag over it and hit it with 5 pound hammer it may take one or two hits but, it will pop loose and the rag will catch the valve keepers if they try to take off.
