I have a mc-54-250b, just recently had trouble shutting off in warm weather, as soon as the fan kick on this scooter at speeds of 50+ would start jerking and then shut off, so I bought a cdi, which I thought fixed the problem. Today very warm today it starting all over again at the time I was going to buy a ignition coil but I didn't. I guess now thats the next thing to buy. Today I notice when the fan is on my spark plug cap is hot, is that normal Attachments:

Spark plug caps get hot, that's normal. I had a coil do exactly what yours is doing. I'm pretty sure that's what it is and bad electricals often act up when they get hot. Get a coil and go from there if necessary. Rich

my odds are I need a ignition coil, but I did notice today going to work, fan on and the scoot starts that jerking, but today I back off the throddle and was able to regain,no stalling. Each time I could tell its coming, I would back off throddle and it seemed to work.

You might have a bad fuel pump then. That doesn't explain the heat being a factor but who knows with these things. Check your vac supply line to the pump but short of swapping it out, just like the coil, there's no easy way to make sure. Rich

I'll check that vacuum hoses and I'm going to order ignition coil anyway I did notice today when cold idle good, it seems when its warmed up is when its runs rough just at idle You said it sound lean, but I'm 2 1/2 turns out and my needle jet clip is set on the highest being rich.

Clarify the notch for us -- is the high notch the one towards the bottom of the needle or the one towards the top of the needle?

Yep if you have the CLIP on the notch next to the END of the NEEDLE you are LEANING the mixture. If the CLIP is towards the POINTED end of the CLIP then you have RICHEN the mixture. Alleyoop

If it isn't the coil I would let the scooter get hot at a standstill and check the voltage across the battery when the fan kicks in. I know it sounds stupid to say the regulator ( or the fan motor ) but it sounds awfully funny that when the fan draws power that's when your troubles start.
