Update, My scooter is sold. (this was not easy for me, but I hope to buy another scooter in near future) so don't write me off, I'll be back, just had an opportunity to buy another motorcycle (1981 650 Special Yamaha).

Yeah Guitarman, I have the same problem with my feet, and have had the front of my scooter off several times, I installed 35W light in mine.

That hose from bottom of carb is the drain hose.

When cleaning carb, the diaphragm area is important too. If the diaphragm isn't sealed right or if the rubber has pin holes it would effect performance. When was the last valve adjustment? And what did you adjust a/f at (how many turns out)
