This time I have got less than 300 miles and the darn thing is loose again. Going to adjust it agin and take her out for a long ride, running great but that noise from the chain is crazy

One thing I found out with motorcycles is that if you adjust too tight the chain will wear prematurely. And the more power you are dealing with the worse the effect. With a 1200cc crotch rocket it is real important on the adjustment. If the chain gets tightened up too tight when you hit a bump in the road this can cause your problem.
I can't picture how your trike is set up but once the chain is worn no adjustment is going to be quite then as a lot of the noise will be coming from the worn links.
I would see that the adjustment still has a little slack at each end of the travel, if it doesn't you will wear the chain when it tightens up.

It is the same chain as Ice Bear put on it but chain has been replaced. Next time it will be a good cycle chain. Yes they make a lot of noise when loose and when worn and it is no fun adjusting it. It is adjusted now and just getting ready to bolt the rear down that the fun part reaching up in there

Mike, the more I think about it, I believe your trike is stretching and or wearing the chain so once you have to tighten it up....it is over and the chain will never be quite again. When a chain gets stretched or worn it no longer fits in the sprocket and then it starts to slap the roller on the sprocket teeth. Even if you had to take the shocks loose to see that the new chain does not get tight on the end of the travel thats what I would do. Some chains have an idler to keep some tension on chain in the slackest position while at the end of the travel the chain does not go completely tight. john

Mike, check the swingarm bolts that hold it to the frame. It could be they are loose like it happened to mine. My bolts where almost completely out and the whole rear end had moved out and down. Alleyoop

Both of you are right. One of the problems is the hub spacers and the othere is just that that is not a decent chain at all, it is of the lowest grade they put on them, also am thinking of of spring loading the rear sproket on the spline and remocing the spacer as there is no allowance for error

hi Mike i dont know about chains on trikes but i used to run Tsubaki chains on my race bikes the were tough! stretched a little first few 100 miles then were fine. I used them on my desert racers all season. just a thought if they have the size and link count for your application (you can always get a longer chain and cut it to fit) hope it helps and heres dare I say A LINK..... to them.... www.tsubaki-rider.com/terry

Hey guys , Mike are you oiling the chain ? Perhaps greasing the chain ? or a noisy bearing could be the cause ? Lee do you have a cb in your magnum , I hear chicken fat on the antenna works great !!!!!!!!!
Nice to see you all!!!!!!!!!!!!
