I was out for a ride today for the first time in over a month and I came to a stop sign and the engine died. It does that sometimes, but that's another issue. I didn't have enough power to start it back up. I called my girlfriend to come get me and we took the battery to Auto Zone nearby and they said the battery was perfectly good (original battery that came with the bike 2 yrs ago) it just needed charged.
Now:
I added some computer fans that run full time like JR suggested, but I think the problem may lie with the charging system. At this point I have done nothing towards a remedy. I don't even really know how to go about checking the stator to see if is working properly or not. Also I think the rectifier could be in the mix as a possible candidate.
Anyone have any ideas about where to start looking?

Last night I put the trickle charger on the battery and it was fully charged tonight when I went to look at it.
I got myself a DC tester tonight and put it on the battery while the scooter was running. 13.7VDC while not running, 14.0VDC when running with high beam and extra fans on, 15.1VDC while running with fans off and low beam on. I could rev it up to about 3000 RPM and get it almost to 16VDC but at idle it was as stated above.
What do you think? Sat too long and didn't get a good charge while riding? or maybe something needs to be messed with?

Well, the ride I was on when it died was about an hour and a half ride, most of it being at 45-55MPH. I'll let it go for a while and see how it acts. If it happens again I'll start digging into it more.

Today I decided to give this issue another look-see.
I went out to the bike and pulled it out of the garage and opened up the seat and took off the battery cover and took a voltage reading: 12.4VDC
Started it up and it went up to 12.49VDC.
Let it warm up and revved it a little and got it to peak at 13.0VDC
So I took it on a little ride about 20 or so miles and got back to the house and repeated the testing.
12.3VDC off 13.2VDC running
I'm thinking the battery may in fact be on the verge of crapping out on me. I believe I'm gonna try and replace the thing and see if that makes any difference.

Smorkle, This happened to me over the last week. If the scoot sat for a couple of days,( due to rain from the southwest ), the scoot wouldn't start. Put on the jumper and wala, it started. Went to work, got off work and it started up. Wouldn't start the next morning and I did the same thing, rode to work and then I got off work and rode to a car dealer to get a quote on a car. Went out to leave and the scoot wouldn't start. Walked across the road to BIG-R and luckly, they had a battery that would fit but I had to add the acid. I think it was $43.00. After I added the acid I waited 15 minutes and then hit the starter and it started right off, 1st hit of the starter. My battery was 2 years old also. I have started it up several times since with no problems....

same thing happened to me this morning Smork, i was about to leave for work, can't start the scoot, battery is weak, tried 3-4 times and totally dead.,brought out my Porta-jump, hook it up in my scooter cigarette outlet, waited for 5 minutes, tried it again, then it started right up. my porta jump is very dependable, 20bucks ,gives me piece of mind, best of all,it can hold power for 5 years. and it's it's compact light weight. /highly recommended.

Yesterday I decided to go out on a limb and purchase a new battery. I didn't shop around any. I just went to O'Rileys auto parts and asked for a new one after showing them the old one. I kinda gulped when he said "$62.99." but I got it anyhow.
All electrical problems seem to have vanished. I guess the battery was the problem after all. Me and the GF had a nice ride up to Wetson, MO and had lunch and a nice walk. Scooter ran fine the whole time.
Thanks for all those who gave valuable input.

Heard of them briefly, but know nothing about them or where they are or anything.

Smorkle, Fantastic!!! that is good to hear. Many times its the simplest things that effect these scoots. If you have a Wal-Mart near you they have batteries a much better prices. Alleyoop
