When I changed my oil 500 miles ago I found a huge gob of dark grey material in the filter screen. I forgot to get a pic but there was still a little bit on this oil change at 3,000 miles:
I have determined that this is residue from the disintegration of the part of the case gasket that spans across the open area under the crank. I'm sure this wouldn't have happened if I wasn't running 65 and 70 MPH back and forth to work but it's something to watch for. Luckily there was still a large uncovered spot on the screen when I first discovered it so the engine was still getting adequate oil. If you discover this on an oil change that's what it is. Rich
