For it to break something is LOOSE, and it is usually the motor on the mounts, unless of course the muffler came loose which is heavy and bounces around and that will also break the pipe. One other thing is if they are not aligned right and that will put stress on the weaker part of the system. The muffler and motor should move together as if its one piece . If one of them is loose on either end is the only time it will break someplace no two ways about it. But I always say "YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CANNOT MAKE HIM DRINK". Alleyoop

Mine broke also with less then 300 miles and my engine mounts are tight, everthing is tight just a bad design. It did not surprise me. Seems I have heard of a lot of them breaking. I went to a Hot Rod shop that does high performance exhaust but he had nothing that small and his bender would not go down that small. So I guess I will have to make one. Whatever you do don't buy one from Icebear it will only break again I have not made one yet but am working on it. Found a nice chrome closet pipe. You know the ones you hang cloths on in a closet. Will have to heat and bend. Fill it with sand and then cap it so when you bend it will not crimp. Keep me posted on how you make out. Alleyoop I agree with Alley. I have not heard of many pipes breaking but, have heard of mufflers going bad. The pipes that I have heard that have broken were due to the muffler bolts to the frame coming loose putting undue stress on the pipe and connecting bolts to the head. This results in either the flange nuts coming loose and the pipe dropping down or the pipe breaking. As far a a bad design goes, that design has been used on Linhai 250 Scooters for years. jim

Alley when your pipe broke (how many times) what did you find to be the problem? Was the motor mounts loose or out of line? Has the new one you made every broke? I am trying to find out due to mine breaking and don't want it to happen again. I checked all my engine mounts and muffler bolts and everything is tight. I was unable to check the alignment due to losing part of the pipe that fell off. What would I have to look for to make sure it was aligned right? I am sure you must be talking about the header pipe itself. My muffler will not slide or move, it just bolts up to the frame with three bolts. By the way I found tranny gears like the ones for the GY6 a lot of digging but I found them.

The pipe only broke once and that was because the muffler mount came loose. The muffler lastest 3 months before the rivets started to fall out and was leaking all the war around the chrome cover front and back. Had it welded then the baffles inside broke so I ordered a whole new system complete. That muffler also lasted 3 months and I also that that one welded then the pipe broke and at that point is when I had the good pipe and muffler put on. No problems with the new Steel pipe and Supertrapp muffler 2 years now and they still look brand new. My pipe broke at the weak point the wide slip on piece they welded onto the end of the pipe. Here it is: Alleyoop

But in the way of the alignment what am I looking your? The headpipe the way in comes down? The only way I see is to spin the pipe so that it aligns with the muffler inlet. Am I right? I want to do like you fix it once.

So there is no strees on the pipe when everything is bolted, you put on the pipe first then the muffler. Now if you have to push, pull or move it up and down to line up the mounting bolt you are putting strees on some part. So the muffler while attached to the pipe has to line up with the mounting hole on the swingarm muffler bracket. If the bracket on the muffler does not line up with the bracket on the frame it is best to bend the bracket on the frame to make the line it up with the bracket on the muffler. Alleyoop

Only two out of three line up, I guess someone before me didn't line it up when being built. I'll fix it I hope the bracket moves.

From what he said I do not think he ordered one, I think he is trying to make one but using a Closet Pipe is not good. The closet pipes are cheap and not made to take bending and the extreme heat from the exhuast. It will burn a hole in the pipe sooner rather than later and it will fall apart. Alleyoop

No I am not in the closet. I had a pipe made up finally I was just getting a idea on how a piece of closet pipe the guy across the street had to get some idea on what I wanted to do. And by the way the pipe is pretty thick, like a 3/16. It felt and looked better then the one that broke.

Hi all I'm from Barcelona Spain and I also like some of you have had problems with the exhaust leak took 3 tubes with only 3000 km, and finally decided to go to a house where hecen as leaks and this is the solution they gave me you have some photos so you can see as takes a piece of flexo means to avoid possible vibrations and I did here www.escapeslacumbre.es/Jordi Attachments:
