I'm working on a 2010 Compeller Trike. I've got a right rear seal leaking. I've removed everything up to and including the C clip retaining spring. How do I remove the axle to get to the bearings/seal? Plus any other help, tips, suggestions are very welcomed!!! LDM

The Axle is DRY there is no liquid in the tube behind the Bearing. If it is leaking by the Rear there it is your brake Caliper or hose. Does your Axle look like this? Alleyoop

Ok, if the axle is dry then where is the fluid coming from? It's not brake fluid, I assume it's coming from the differential, but why and more importantly how do I fix it?
Rapid Jim I'm sure you know.

Are you sure it is not grease that has been liquidfied? Put up some pictures of what you are talking about. The Differential is full of grease and it gets really hot and depending on the type of grease they used some of it does liquify and comes out. Alleyoop

The wheel was covered in oil, dripping. First thing I did was clean the wheel, hub, etc. so it didn't make a mess in my shop and and on my lift. I leaned it to the right last night to see if it was still leaking and it was. I don't think pictures would help at this point.

This type of diff is 80/90 gear oil. It does not have a grease style diff.
As they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Some of the early rear diffs you need to use an axel puller on others you need to remove the axel tube from the diff. A picture will help us.

WOW!! I did not know that the differentials on those actually hold gear oil and not grease like in mine. So if that is the case then a oil seal is leaking plain and simply. Jim maybe you can ask IB for a photo of a breakdown of the Axle like they sent me for my Trike back in 2009 when I was having trouble with my axle. This is what they sent me. Alleyoop

IDM, are you sure you are not over filling the gear box. You have the same as I have on my Magnum and it only takes about 6 oz Max of gear oil or it will run out the bearings were the axle spline slides in. If that is the case on yours it would run out like that, I did that once and had oil every were. Just a thought...

Thats a good point MIKE, it is a Splash system so only a little is needed, cause it splashs the oil around in there to lubricate everything. Alleyoop

Mike, This trike belongs to a friend. I know nothing about these units. Without having a service manual or owners manual knowing how these things work is difficult. This site is my best hope without any dealers near me. After reading many posts I've attended to several issues on the trike already. I think I'll drain the differential and refill it using 6oz of lubricant and see the effects.
BTW how much does a new blue rear fender panel cost?

Hope that is all it is just to much gear oil in there, it does build a lot of pressue in there and even with the vent if so to much it has to be forced out of somewhere. As for the cost of a new fender PM or give JIM a call he can look up the price for you. Alleyoop

Yes for sure call Jim on the decking. I would clean as much of that oil I could in the axle housings and all and out of the hubs and off the axles and wheel spline or your going to have a real mess later. Please let us know how much oil you get when you drain it. As I said this has happen before, I had oil dripping all over the truck when I took mine to AR last summer and it was still dripping when Lee and I changed it out.
Sure hope Al is right and that is all you have to do.
