I've been wrestling with whether to reveal this or not and decided I should. Ever since I got the Fashion it's had a bad shake at takeoff and instead of tearing into it I thought it would go away or maybe it was just me. Two people rode the thing before I picked it up and didn't say anything and it seemed to get under control when I had a passenger. Last Sunday I was riding home and it suddenly shrieked and then lost drive. With the help of numerous people we got it loaded and unloaded from the pickup and I finally ripped into it mostly expecting a broken belt. Surprise! This is what I found. The drive shaft off the clutch had snapped off at the splines and left the bell housing flopping around. Now before anyone starts with "overpriced CF Moto junk" or "Cheap Chinese Crap" keep in mind that the scooter was telling me something was wrong and I ignored it. After looking it over, either the clutch nut was overtight or loose and stressed the shaft where it held the bell housing. Here began the fun part. Heard how you can't get parts for these Chinese Junks? I first ordered the shaft from Bike Bandit for a Honda Helix since its specs are similar. Then in frustration, and the need to know, I Googled CN 250 transmission parts and up popped Parts for Scooters. I ordered the part at lunchtime, this Tuesday and it was on the road that night. I got it at 10:00 this morning (Thursday) and had it in by 1 o'clock. Yes, less than two days from Tampa, Florida to the inside of my transmission. So I learned two things-again. First, when your scooter, car, snowmobile, whatever, is talking to you....listen and fix it. Second, I got a transmission shaft for a Chinese scooter faster than I could for a Honda. I kept the Honda shaft coming to keep in stock, a sure way to make sure it never happens again and it's still not here. Say what you will about the "Old" CN 250, it's easy to get parts for. Also I have to thank Rich for posting the Helix manual in the tech section. It helped me get the side panel off in minutes after spending a half hour trying to figure it out myself. One more thing. You see the case that shaft is on. It's for my electric impact gun. I'd still be working on the scooter without it. I don't know how people can own a scooter without one.

That's the 3rd one of those I've seen/heard about in 5 years. The first one was on my very own 06 Fashion. BTW, that scoot is on it's third owner and has over 17,000 miles on it
Just goes to show you...nothings fool-proof.

He got it fixed and did all the work himself. Thanks for posting that KZ, maybe it'll help another CN 250 owner. The CFs are built strong but things break on BMWs too, none are immune. Rich

I took it to work today and it's humming along again. Takeoffs are smooth as silk, no more shuddering.

Great to hear you're back on the road, KZ.
The way you described it, I would have guessed a clutch problem. On that assumption, I would probably have done the same as you and waited until I either had the time or the problem would work itself out. I'll keep this in mind if I start feeling the same thing. Thanks for sharing this success story.

I had to put this in. Notice the difference between a Honda shaft and a stock CF Moto. I think CF Moto modifies shafts to fit. Notice the Honda shaft doesn't have teeth marks on the bearing stop like a gear was ground down. The PFS shaft looked the same way.

I just got thru checking the nut on the end of my shaft and it was tight.

Good. I had heard that there were a defective group of shafts in CF Moto 250s but since I hadn't looked at the nut I had to include it as a possible deficiency. Believe me when I tell you the variator was tight, a little too tight so I also suspected that the same 600 pound Gorilla over tightened the clutch nut possibly putting stress on the shaft.

Hey KZ, a few more things for me to inspect before racking on some mile on the Moto 250 (the name fashion sucks)! I removed the side tags. Glad to hear your back up and running!
Cheers
