Here I am again. Things were going smoothly, several long rides and no problems, then yesterday coming back from relatively short ride but long windy steepy roads, just after pulling into bottom of my drive, the thing just locked up on me, stopped abruptly like hard braking.
Stayed running but would not move forward, even by pushing. Felt like something in the back was locked up. Had to back it into relatively safe place off dirt drive and wait to tow. Had brakes while backing.
After 24 hours, got on, started and it moved. Managed to gingerly with a lot of prayer get it up my very steep driveway without problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks as always,
Raye

How many miles do you have on scoot. I would look to your drive system. Variator/belt/clutch. My 1st guess is a problem with your belt. Will the engine rev up with out moving the bike?? Also make sure your calipers (brakes)are not stuck, (not likely tho). can you or do you have someone who can pull the side cover off of the variator/belt/clutch assy?? Would guess u will find your problem there. Barnie

I forget the jist of one of your first posts but didn't it stall on you, or something like that, and then function perfectly on the way home? I seem to recall some advice about oil. What shape is the final drive oil in? I've had my shares of 250 rear end issues and this post is making my spider senses tingle. I would check the oil. There are six bearings in the transmission case just waiting to fail. It sounds to me like something got hot, seized up and let you move the scooter when it cooled.

thanks guys. I had that on my list to do but was waiting for someone with more muscle to help remove that cover.
The last problem was a stall, this was a total wheel freeze, as described in Barnie's mssg above. And there has been that loud rattle tht i thought was coming from the muffler.
Sigh. And now I really need the thing since my only other vehicle just died on me. I should have just bought a newer used one. And just when I was really starting to have some fun!

You could always take the KZ1000ST approach, change the oil in the rear end and hope that it was low or beat up. Then ride and see what it does. Bearings are fairly forgiving and you might have just overheated them. New oil of the synthetic variety might save you.
