i marked the variator and did some testing today the belt wont travel to the top of the variator on level ground and the rpms stay at 6500 on flat wont raise any higher unless i go on a downhill even a slight downhill the rpms go up but on level ground rpms are frozen at 6500 wont go higher ive tried my koso variator with weights from 5 to 9 gram and the stock with 5 to 9 gram still same result what can i do to remedy this found a flat place with about 3 miles or so flat road rpms stay at 6500 or is this normal?

theres no restrictor ive checked for all that stuff months ago and have replaced any restricting part

It could just be you over jetted the carb, a #38 Pilot, Damn man I had a #35 Pilot and added 30 more ccs and just put in a #38 Pilot pumping 182ccs. Also have you tried lowering the Needle. Also check your comression your either low on compression(power) or it is over jetted to much fuel.
The belts will only travel to 1/8-1/4 from the edge of the variators depending on the ramp angles on the variator. The KOSOs have steep ramps so it takes quite a bit to get the belt to travel closer to the edge of the variator. In your case I believe you need more RPMS 6500 is low so check the compression and try down jetting a little for more power.

my carb came with a 38 jet so i left it in compression seems on the high side i dont have a gauge but the did the spark plug hole thing and its tough to kick and flywheel has good resistance it gets good speed at 6500 46 gps reliable on long run so maybe my tach is just junk but downhill you can hear the rpms rise they just sit at 6500 on flat but it keeps accelerating i put in 4.5 gram rollers about an hour ago got 7500 but its much slower so staying with 7.5 sliders for now

Oh, the motor does rev past 6500, the way you put it no matter what you did it would only rev up to 6500 rpms. So yes that is pretty much what your going to get at 6500 46 mph which is damn good for a 50 with a bbk. You can try 6 or 6.5 gram weights and that will raise your rpms a little more and see if you don't loose your top end speed.

The only other couple of options for more top end is get a different Variator, Prodigy Variators are more for top end the ramps are not so steep as the KOSO variators. Or put in taller gears and that will get you more top end with what you have.

im gonna order 7 gram sliders and run them with my stock variator the koso seems hard to dial in and i lose rpms with it

Yes, like I said the KOSO Variator likes heavier weights because of the steep ramps as you proved it yourself. Also the Variator face plate is angled more for low end torque and the belt will never get near the edge of it to much of a curve on it for the belt to climb any higher.

For what you want I would install taller gears go 2 up and 2 down that should get you anywhere from 6-8 mph more on your top end.
A different Variator will only gain you a couple of mph and that is all.

What gears are currently in there now? You want to know that first so you don't get the wrong set of gears and be disapointed that what you got are only 1 up and 1 down or 1 up and 2 down or 2up and 1 down etc..
You want to make sure, mine were 13/40 and I am putting in the tallest gears I could fine 18/36 I currently have 16/37(3up and 3down). Also you need to know if your gears need to be pressed on or they just slip on, some have splines some don't.

mine are 15/52 they will need pressed gonna take them to a machine shop after i figure out what size to get

update got some six gram sliders with koso variator boom back in the powerband 8000 rpms max at wot 48 gps on flat cruise at 43 gps 3/4 throttle i think ill leave the scoot alone from here is 8000 rpms too much? bad for the motor?

Great!! Told you going down a little on your Weights would raise your rpms and you lucked out you gained a couple of mph to boot.
