Just wondered if the 200 cc engine that is advertised on scrappy dog scooters would be a good trade up for my ice bear 150 trike and would it give much in the way of power increase? Thanks

If that Cart/Trike 200cc advertized motor is a long case it will not fit on your 150 Trike. I believe your motor is a SHORT case which means the Motor mounts on the 200cc Long case will not match up with the Mounting brackets on the Swingarm. I went to look at the 200cc for carts and trikes which has reverse as well. It actuall has neutral as well. Get the dimensions between the rear and front motor mounts and see if it matchs the 150 motor mounts. Also see if it comes with a SPROCKET and how far the sprocket comes out. Remember it has to align with your Rear Sprocket on the Differential. These points must match especially the motor mount spaceing from side to side and front to rear otherwise you will have to modify the Swingarm to mount the motor. Ask them for the piston displacment I bet its a 58.5 with a 2+2 crank which makes it a 161cc motor. All the dealers tend to round up the displacments on the motors quite a bit to make it sound better. You can also up your mph by putting on Taller Tires I have these mine came with 225/40x10 and I got 205/65x10 tires they are 3" taller. You can see them on my Trike in the picture. www.golfcarttirestore.com/205-65-10.htmAlleyoop

bore will increase hp and stroke will increase torque you will want more torque i lived in the upstate part of SC when i was growing up and know what you are talking about with the hills i am thinking of doing a build with the spare motor going with a +3 crank and 62mm BBK that will give me and displacement of about 190cc the +3 means 3mm longer stroke than stock

The kind of motor you have is stamped on the side here: It is most likely a 157QMJ just like mine. Alleyoop

You can get your numbers without going into the motor if it is cranking like you say. For the hills you just need some more rpms and you can get those by just going 1 gram lighter on your weights. Now when going up a incline do your rpms drop?
To test that hit the bottom of the hill say at 50mph and just hold the throttle at that position and see if your RPMS start to drop going up. You want to set the CVT up so that you do not LOOSE RPMS just mph going up a hill.
As for MPH you have some Options , Taller tires and or taller tranny gears. If you want a lot more torque then you will have to get more displacement. Alleyoop

Some smaller stuff can work as well, high flow air filter and bigger jets are relativèy cheap. I also think the engine we have is the long case due to the need of the transaxle. But this is a question for someone like Jim to be sure. Also perhaps octain booster might post an little spped but no top end increase.

Very easy to know if you have the long case or short case motor. Just count the bolts holding the CVT cover. If it has 8 bolts holding the CVT cover it is a SHORT CASE MOTOR. If it has 10 bolts holding the CVT cover it is a LONG CASE MOTOR. Alleyoop

I have the 157QMJ engine also this is a short case 8 bolts holding cvt cover. Thanks for all the info guys. I will post on my upgrade. on a moderate incline i lose a lot of rpms quickly I will probably start mods in next few weeks. Christmas coming and cold up here. my butt does not have a warmer for riding.... time now to play with engine.

I would start with the weights like Alley said. I've had 3 scoots so far and all of them didn't have the proper weights in them. If the weights are too light you are buzzing around and never reach top gearing, if they are too heavy then you don't reach the power range of the motor until you get up over 40-45 and have sluggish accelleration. I targeted the range to operate in between the torque and hp peaks which were between 6400-8500 rpm.

I have the 157QMJ motor as well, my trike weighs in at 350lbs and I weigh 180lbs, I found that it likes 11-12 weights 13s on mine the rpms drop to much. Currently I am running with Dr. Pulley 12 gram Sliders. I also like the 11.5 Dr. Pulley Sliders. On a side note with a bored out motor you will loose rpms especially with a stroker crank. But you will have a lot of low end and mid-range power to get you up to speed quickly. Then put in taller gears and taller tires and it will fly at around 7k. Alleyoop

I decided that to get the speed I needed it would cost a lot so I bought a burgman 650. Btw I have a mix of rollers 3 - 13. 3 -16 holds it at 7200. Rpm checked again does not lose any on hills just speed. Gave trike to wife. 125 lbs should do nicely with upgrade jets and ignition and coil.
