I'm curious about everybody's Max speed for yalls 300cc trikes. I have a sunny reverse trike. I can get a steady 62mph. I sometimes get up to 66mph. One day I got up to 73mph but I think I had wind helping.

Hey Justin, just to establish a baseline, let me know what your speedometer reads at various rpms up to redline with your trike on the center stand. I'll compare with mine and that might let us know if it's a problem with the tranny(slipping or stretched belt, or variator not variating(is that even a word?), or with power delivery(aka engine or carburetor). Oh yeah, great to hear you're back on the road without the shakes! Now we've gotta get daddue fixed up and back out there too.

I'll drink to that!! Noo, wait a minute, I'll drink to anything right now. As long as I don't have to drive.

serious though guys,my digi tac won't even read out at idle speeds and sometimes not even if you're at higher steady speeds. You have to either rev it and then you get a rediculous jump in the readout and then no readout at all when the rpms are slowing down.

Ok, while the trike was on the center stand I recorded the following:
4500 RPM the speed was reading around 55mph
6500 RPM the speed was reading around 78mph
I did not want to go higher than 6500 RPM even though I still had more throttle available. At 6500 RPM the engine sounded like it was close to its limit.
On the road I get around 6000 RPM at full throttle and a speed of 60- 62 mph reading on the speedometer. I rarely get higher than 64 mph. On the day I noticed my back tire was out of round I got her up to 68 mph and on the return trip home it got up to 73 mph. That was before the tires were balanced and a out of round rear tire. At that speed I was holding on tight and praying a little lol. It was far from a smooth ride. The trike rides smooth now and I wish it can get back up to cruising speed of at least 65 mph. I may be brave enough to take a real trip out of town if I can get higher speeds.

Edit to above post: on the road rpm only gets to around 5200 rpm at full throttle.

Ok Justin, those speedometer/tachometer readings sound about right(I've still got to finish some brake work on mine so didn't run her up to compare yet). So correct me if I'm wrong alleyoop but I think that means one of four things: cvt belt is slipping, variator weights are too light, clutch main torque spring is too stiff, or the engine is gutless. Since three of the four revolve around the transmission, I would start by taking the cvt belt cover off and having a look. You can watch how the belt and pulleys operate while running the trike on the center stand and look for the belt to rise to the top of the variator and fall to the bottom of the clutch pulley. Only thing is it sounds like your're only having this problem under load so maybe applying the rear brake(A LITTLE) while maintaining a specific speed will show if the belt is slipping. If you're not sure what this is supposed to look like check out the awesome video links from the cvt section in the library of this forum.

82 MPH!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S RIGHT, I GOT HER UP TO 82 MPH TODAY!!! Yeah, yeah, it was a slight downgrade and little to no wind, but 82 MPH!!! Out of a 300cc(not even) engine with no mods!! Reached 82 at redline of 7000 rpms. Took note of mph at lower rpms and pretty well matched what you are seeing Justin. I'm not a huge guy(185 lbs) and I don't think that you are either so your trike should be doing a lot better. Have you found anything yet? If your cvt belt looks ok I'm wondering if your carb is set up right. Hope I don't sound like I'm rubbing it in 'cause I'm not... just had a real nice ride today and everything seemed to be working right for a change. I made a slight mod to the suspension but I'm gonna see how it works out before suggesting anyone else try it. Let me know how you're makin' out.

I have not looked at my CVT belt yet. I only weigh 165 lbs. I did fill up with Shell v-power 93 octane and added fuel medic. I also changed the spark plug. I did a oil change too. Today I took a trip about 15 miles out of town. It was very windy. I was able to get the RPM up to 6000 and a speed of 70mph. That was with help of the wind. On the return trip I was riding into the wind and could only reach 5000 rpm and speeds between 51- 56 mph. To get the cvt belt cover off do I have to remove all the bolts along with the set of screws? I see there are outside bolts along with screws that are attached to a black circular plastic piece.

The black plastic piece is just a cover for the axle nut(I was curious and removed mine) so it does not have to be removed. Getting at all those bolts with the body on doesn't look like a lot of fun though.

I've pushed mine to 85 on gps and 90 on speedo. Could have gone more but vibration from rear wheels was getting bad. not sure on rpm as my tiny tac died. But by the screamin' of the engine I'm guessin' around 8 grand.
