FORGET ABOUT THE KICKSTART for now that is NOT YOUR PROBLEM AT HAND, the motor has a problem. Getting the KICKSTART to work is not going to make the motor run.
FIRST--WHAT DID YOU FIX or put on or DO. What is this Millsc asked if its with the new BENDIX and you response I THINK SO??
Time to check compression It doesn't sound good I have to tell you. Take the plug out and stick your finger in the hole and hold it nice and snuge and hold the throttle wide open and crank it. It should have enough compression to blow your finger off the hole. Or you can take the CVT cover off and grab the Variator with your hand(FRONT PULLEY) and turn it COUNTER CLOCKWISE to your left. If it has compression it will be harder to turn it when the PISTON gets to top dead center and it will require a little more strength to get it past TOP DEAD CENTER. Alleyoop

BUMMER, Time to take the VALVE COVER OFF and HOPE IT IS JUST REALLY TIGHT VALVES. Adjust both valves to .004 inchs also when you bring the piston to TOP DEAD CENTER the CAM SPROCKET two little holes are even with the TOP of the head ALSO TAKE A LOOK at where the FLYWHEEL TIMING is pointed. Take a Picture of the CAM SPROCKET how you have it lined up as well as the FLYWHEEL timing marks so we can see IF it may be out of time.

Yea, you do not hear that grinding anymore but I think you have a more serious problem. You have no compression so that could mean your valves are to tight or you may have a hole in the piston or a dropped valve. take pictures of the valves with the cover off and RE-CHECK your valve gaps like I mentioned above. A hole in it(HAHA). If so then you have a choice if that is the only thing wrong. If pieces of metal came off and went down into the crankcase it could of damaged the crank bearings. When you get to see the piston take pictures of it, if it does not have a hole then it may just be that the rings are shot, if that is the case then you have a choice put in a 72cc Big Bore Kit since you have everything off or go with a new motor. John, He does not have a compression gauge but he did the FINGER trick and he did not have enough compression to blow his finger off the hole(NOT GOOD). Also listen to the VIDEO and you can hear squishing sound which usually means no compression what so ever. Alleyoop

Well if it is the same motor AND try the ELECTRIC START if he doesn't have a good battery bring yours and hook it up. and see if the MOTOR TURNS OVER and you can then check for COMPRESSION with your FINGER(REMEMBER HOLD THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN WHEN CHECKING COMPRESSION). If its the same motor YOURS GETS SPARK so if the motor is good you can swap your electrical stuff to that one to get spark. Alleyoop
