I bought the scoot with 1347 miles. Previous owner said unit was not charging battery though it would run a day or two if he charged it externally .After I got it home, I had the battery checked and it was a dead unit. So, now, it has a new battery that tests fine. BUT nothing happens when I turn on the key. No lights, no horn, no blinkers, no starter, nothing.
Where do I start, please?

Question, before you took it home did you start it and was it running?
Anyhow Check your fuses, the first one is coming off the battery it is on a red wire from the battery if that is blown NOTHING WORKS. Also check if yours has a fuse box right next to the battery, it is a black square box with a cover on it. If you do then the battery feeds that fuse box from the fuse box everything else gets juice. Also check if your solenoid has a fuse as well. Alleyoop

Usually the one fuse coming off the battery on the RED WIRE is a Glass Type Tube they may look good but are bad. I would just replace it because it appears you have no power anywhere and that is the main fuse that feeds everything else even the fuse box if yours has one. Alleyoop

no, it was not running, but I talked him down to almost nothing. The fuses have found, 1 glass one in line with the hot wire from the battery, and 4 blade fuses in a fuse box under the seat

on a whim, I went and put a meter on it. The fuses checked good both by continuity and passing voltage. Where should I check next, please?

So you checked the GLASS TUBE WIRE On both sides. You hooked up to one end of the wire going to the fuse and grounded the other, then hooked up to the other end of the fuse and also got a reading. WHAT READING did you get by the way.
The Wire with the Glass Tube feeds the IGNITION and when you turn it on it feeds the FUSE BOX.
But if the GLASS TUBE is good and or after you replace it still nothing then CHECK the fuse box. If the blade fuses look good or you can test them, then it can be the wires under the fuse box coming off the fuse box OR the black wire going to the fuse box from the the ignition switch that is not making a connection to the fuse box. Turn the key on and check the black wire from under the fuse box you should get 12v.
If all that checks out then you have to check the IGNITION switch and make sure it is getting 12v from the Wire with the GLASS TUBE. Alleyoop

I went out to check the voltage from the battery ground to the contacts on the bottom of the fuse box and it suddenly dawned on me I should be doing it with the key on. My 12.7 volts suddenly dropped to about 1 volt at the battery and about 2/3 of a volt out at the fuse box. I have the battery on a charger now bringing it back up to full

Very cool, yep put the key on so that it passes juice to the fuse box. Alleyoop LOL ;D I am thinking the stator or regulator is shot and caused the battery to die in the first place. That lows miles you never know. If they are good to go and the battery is charging up when its running then your ok.

Turned out the battery (brand new, 3 days old) had an internal short and was replaced. I waiting for it to finish charging now

Ok, the new battery fixed the electrical problems but I seem to have starting problems now. A co-worker told me I probably fouled the plug with old gas and need to replace it but my 5/8" automotive spark plug socket seems too small. What size should I expect, please?
