AcK. Well, found the last bolt I had missed and removed it. Exposed the stator/etc and I ***think*** the idler was loose. I pushed it back in place but I need to get some oil and I boogered up the gasket and I need to replace that, too. Can I use some gasket-in-a-tube or do I need to order a paper gasket?

Ok, I got past finals at school, Christmas shifts @ work, and food poisoning. Now I am back on the scoot, hoping to have it running by Christmas so I can do a 400 mile tour on it just to annoy my mom who has forbidden me from doing a 400 mile tour on it. I pulled the starter, left it connected to the hot cable and used jumper cables to build a ground connection. It appears to be spinning strongly. I guess the next step is to look at the starter clutch Now I have pulled the oil line and all the various bolts holding the flywheel cover, but of course, I have missed something or it is just nice and stuck because it does not want to pop off.

Ok. The scoot is a 2008 with only 1347 miles showing on the clock. The guy attested that was correct on the title, but we both know what that is worth. Still, maybe it's right. Could it just be a case of something being loose and allowing the starter to not properly engage the flywheel? Thanks again for the help

I managed to get a buddy to probe the piston with a long wire tie. The engine is not turning with the starter. could this be a solenoid issue?

Ok, I double checked the spark and that is fine. However, when I put my finger over the spark plug hole, I felt NO pressure so I suspect the engine is not cranking and the starter motor is free-wheeling What should I check, now?? I am starting to get a bit discouraged. Why did it start the other night and now it will not!?!?? Thanks a lot for your help D

thank you much. I pulled the plug and it makes a snapping noise when I run the starter. My battery seemed low, though, probably from cranking it so much. I put it on the charger and it was down to 25%. It is almost re-charged now. I will go through your check list once it is charged.

After getting my battery issues sorted, electrically, my scoot seems sound. I managed to get it started, ONCE, while I was diagnosing the bad (new) battery. This was before I drained the fuel and added some SeaFoam treatment to fresh new fuel. How the starter runs REALLY fast and there are no "catching" noises. I am fine doing remove & replace, etc, and I am reasonably proficient at electrical problems (when I am not absolutely green at the product!) but I am not wonderful mechanic. Where should I start? For what should I look? My wife is whining at me non-stop that I wasted my (our) money and that it will never start (but I think the real problem is she is *drooling* for a chance for me to give her a ride on it!). Ok, the new battery fixed the electrical problems but I seem to have starting problems now. A co-worker told me I probably fouled the plug with old gas and need to replace it but my 5/8" automotive spark plug socket seems too small. What size should I expect, please?

Turned out the battery (brand new, 3 days old) had an internal short and was replaced. I waiting for it to finish charging now

I went out to check the voltage from the battery ground to the contacts on the bottom of the fuse box and it suddenly dawned on me I should be doing it with the key on. My 12.7 volts suddenly dropped to about 1 volt at the battery and about 2/3 of a volt out at the fuse box. I have the battery on a charger now bringing it back up to full

on a whim, I went and put a meter on it. The fuses checked good both by continuity and passing voltage. Where should I check next, please?
