Flat side carbs do not have a BUTTERFLY the Throttle cable goes down in the top of the carb and hooks onto the cylinder and as you twist the throttle it pulls the cylinder up and needle out of the main jet. These types of carbs are very touchy because a little twist of the throttle changes the position of the needle higher or lower. So as your riding a little change in the throttle position effects the motor.
A CVK Carb is more forgiven because it acts on the amount of pressure at different openings of the BUTTERFLY that the throttle opens to allow more air to come through the VENTURI and that pressure pushing the Diapghram up and raises the Cylinder holding the needle. Alleyoop
