hey all, 50cc Tao Tao,..wont start, has good spark, cdi is good, battery is good, while checking ignition switch i noticed all the bulbs had burned out..I'm now thinking there is a major short in the system causing it not to start...i was told by shop owner that the last tech (either on accident or on purpose) installed battery cables wrong. positive on negative terminal and vis-versa, then he tried to start bike. Ever since it hasn't started...what kind of damaged could be caused by installing battery wrong and what the heck should i be looking for...Please advise...

All it takes for the motor to run is SPARK, GAS and COMPRESSION. As a matter of fact you can take take the battery out and kickstart it.
Few questions:
1. When you turn the KEY on and squeeze the brakes does your STOPLIGHT COME ON?
2. Do any of your lights work?
3. Does your Electric start work does it spin your starter?
4. Does the motor turn over when the starter spins?
5. How did you check for SPARK?

4. WHY DID YOU HAVE THE SCOOT IN THE SHOP?

5. If the battery was hooked up wrong it probably blew the FUSE.

By the way TEKK, welcome to the forum, well get that sucker going don't worry just have to find what the problem is. Once we find the bad part of the system we can track it down.
That is why all the questions.

The scoot have 3 important system, ELECTRICAL, FUEL DELIVERY and MOTOR. Once we find which part of the system is not letting it start we can then test that system and find the culprit.

Yes, first welcome to the forum. Second, I agree with Alley, if the battery was hooked up backwards, the main fuse blows, and the bike is dead in the water until you replace it. So the main fuse is OK. Which bulbs blew?
