I bought a used JMStar 250, and I need to remove my rear tire/wheel so I can replace the tire, but I just bought this scooter, and have never done this before, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Someone please give me instructions, with good detail. There are pictures below of what the scooter rear looks like. Also, this is a 10 inch wheel. Is it possible to replace it with a 13 inch wheel, because I have one from a 150 that I got for body parts.

GO see this thread the wheel comes off from the RIGHT SIDE of the scoot. www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=techtips&action=display&thread=6884&page=4Changing the size of the rim is not a plug and play, you have to first determine if a 13" will clear the front of the swing arm. Then if you have to find one that has a disc brake attachment and not a drum. Also look on the left side the rim center has to fit onto the left side of the motor case as well. Alleyoop

The 13" wheel I have does have disc brakes. I guess it is mainly a matter of it clearing the swing arm. Once I see how to take the wheels off I can try it. Thanks.

The tire on there looks like it just clears the exhaust. I could be wrong, but it is a picture.

The tire on there looks like it just clears the exhaust. I could be wrong, but it is a picture. John I measured it and the exhaust is only about 3/4 inch from the front of the tire. I have already determined that there is no way to put the 13 inch tire/wheel I have on this scooter. The swing arm mount hole is about 1 inch farther forward than the other scooter that has the 13 inch rear wheel. Even if the wheel mountings where the same since the 13 inch is about 2 inch larger in diameter then that would put the tire too close to the engine, and definitely the exhaust would be in the way. It was just a thought, and I had not taken any measurements before I posted that question. I bought a 150cc NST branded Shenke manufactured scooter for $100 to use for body parts. It has a L rated (75 mph rated) Shinko 13" rear tire on it that looks new, and thus the thought about changing to the larger wheel. I wish my 250 had 13" wheels. The person I bought the 150 from said it has a burnt valve, but I don't know for sure, and I can see that whoever worked on it did not know what they were doing. It did have a performance coil on it that I scavenged.

I would not skimp when you replace the tire, (get a good one) if a tire fails it can mess your body up big time.
As far as the 150 goes I would plan of fixing it. You already have a pretty good idea who ever worked on it don't know what they are doing. I most cases they (those with out a clue) give up before they have found the problem. Unless the exhaust is off I doubt if it has a burned valve.

I may check out the 150 some time in the future, but I took a few parts already. I swiped the negative battery cable because mine was all taped up. I think it is also missing some other parts. The reg is so old it would cost a lot to register it here in California.
I do know a bit about mechanics, but it has been many years since I have done much on cars, or motorcycles. I took auto mechanics in college, but that was over 30 years ago, and as I got older, and cars got more complicated, I did less and less car repairs.
I used to have valve compressors, ring compressors, timing lights, micrometers, etc., but most of that is gone now. I do have a 6 inch digital micrometer that I use for measuring my slot car wheels and tires.

When I do get a new tire it will be L rated or better. There does not seem to be as many tires available in this size, but I did find a Metzeler ME 7 Teen Scooter Tires 120/90-10 66L TL for a decent price of $39.82 currently (may change by the time I am ready to order), regular around $50.

Yup could have figured as much! Kind of like the guy who gets a new car when the ash tray is full. I got a pair of S rated pirelli's sitting here waiting for a warm day. (and an old man with extra energy)

This is an excerpt from a thread on my fashion 250. It has the same vertical engine as yours. The swing arm looks very similar and I think the procedure is about the same except for the disc brake. I don't have any pics on that but I think once the swing arm is loose it should come apart easily. You might have to just take the caliper off and slide it off of the rotor.
Excerpt:
I've never taken the rear wheel off of a CF 250 and had heard it was a real nightmare....again, urban myth. First, put the scooter on the Harbor Freight lift, best investment I ever made:
The muffler is a solid piece of iron and I get the feeling it's a structural component. To remove it you've got four bolts around the muffler and two on the exhaust bracket:
The swing arm is loose with the muffler off so use an impact to get the 24mm axle lock nut off:
With the swing arm off the collar is revealed:
Pull the wheel off and go get a new tire put on:
Put some grease on the axle:
You'll want to clean the lock nut and threads with brake cleaner and keep the grease off of them:
Wheel:
Collar:
Swing arm:
And torque the axle nut to.....mumble mumble,.....impact...mumble. I know, I know....shut up.
Bolt the muffler on:
I hope this helps if someone needs to change a tire on a Helix clone. Rich
