So last tuesday I was riding home from work, and the variator fan came loose some how and pretty much shattered... I ordered a replacement, and it came in today. I have an impact wrench and all the tools to do the job I think. From most of the youtube videos I've seen with this scooter (2008 JonwayYY250T) it appears that I will not need to variator holding tool if I have an impact wrench. The teeth on the crank shaft don't appear to be damaged or stripped. Anyone else ever had to change out the variator fan on this model? What can I expect? Thank you, Justin-

No special thing just make sure the Fan pulley grabs onto the splines when you put it on. To make it easy squeeze the CLUTCH pulley and PUSH down the belt in the clutch pulley then you will have some slack by the Variator so it does not push out the Fan pulley.
Then tighten up the nut with your hand then hit it with the IMPACT WRENCH 3 1 second wraps and it should be good to go. Then before you put on the CVT cover start it up give it a few good revs up and down to make sure the nut does not come loose. You can even ride it around the block or something before you button it up with the CVT cover. Alleyoop Alleyoop

this could've prevented it if you only read my posts. LOL!! Lol. I actually took it to a repair shop because I was hearing a knocking sound coming from the variator. They ordered another, and replaced it... About a month later, this happened. So yeah... from now on, if I can do the repairs, I will be! Thank you for the tip. I'm guessing that is some kind of LockTight?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared that I was going to strip something. Also, once the fan is on, shouldn't there be a washer before I put the nut on? When I removed the cvt cover, there wasn't a washer anywhere to be found, and honestly, I don't remember seeing one ever.

Well some need a washer some don't. But the determing facter is when you slip the fan onto the Crankshsft Splines IF the splines protrude out beyond the Fan then you need a Washer. You can run your finger on the outside of the FAN to see if you feel the Crankshaft Splines.
You WANT the NUT to TIGHTEN UP AGAINST the FAN. If the Nut tightens up on the Splines then the Fan is loose and that will loosen the nut and trouble in river city again. Alleyoop

yeah, the locktite spare you the need to super tighten the nut, if you feel enough resistantce when you hit it 2 or 3 times you should be good. back in asia where i live in the past, we use saliva instead of locktite, works good but times has changed, i am now an american citizen , i need to be more sophisticated now. good luck! and happy riding!

Your right LUKE most people do not know that Saliva is sticky and drys and holds. Some use it as a glue to hold things. Alleyoop

Fixed! Just wanted to hop back in here and tell you guys thank you. I went with the locktite, and made sure to add the right amount of torque from the impact wrench, and all went well. I don't think that the shop used locktite at all last time around(which was 1 month ago...). I almost feel like giving them a call and giving them a piece of my mind... bah whatever... I just will never go back there. Thanks again fellas, hopefully this thing never rattles loose again. -Justin

Good Job good to hear, just remember if you hear metal rattling hit the KILL SWITCH and stop the scoot, will be less damage. Alleyoop

Just so you know how things works. If right now you twist the throttle a little to start off and your scoot starts to move say at 2500 rpms, with the 1500 clutch springs it will NOW start to move at almost 4000 rpms. All that most of your CVT PERFORMANCE items do is REQUIRE higher RPMS out of the motor. And of course you will get quick take offs the motor is running at a higher rpm before the Clutch pads get thrown out and grab the bell to turn the wheel. Just like a car with a CLUTCH, push in the clutch and give it gas and then let the clutch out(SAMEO SAMEO). So if currently you like tp cruise around at low rpms say at 30-40 at say 4000 rpms now it will require about 5000 rpms to cruise around at those same speeds. If your a penny pincher on gas it will use more gas because now the motor is always running at a higher rpms. Alleyoop You can go and read what I put together that covers just about everything in the CVT. www.scooterdoc.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=techtips&action=display&thread=7633
