i have a simple question i have a moped that is chain driven my question is if i put a smaller rear sprocket on it to gain some top end speed will this increase or decrese engine RPM? i would also like to know the same thing about the front sprocket to keep some low end speed . but will making the front sprocket bigger increse engine RPM or lower RPM ? thank you in advance

It will not increase your motors RPMS capabilities, it will REQUIRE more rpms to get to speed. Alleyoop

Also keep in mind why your moped has that gearing. If you reduce that rear sprocket your moped might not have the rpm's to produce the horsepower to gain a higher top speed. Speed puts more load on an engine from both aero drag and the weight it's pulling. I thought about that with my 50cc bikes but nixed it. The bike produces a whopping three horsepower and weighs 180 pounds. I weigh about the same so I would be asking a three horse motor to pull 360 pounds faster than the 50 mph top speed it's capable of. Also lowering the gearing will hurt on hills. It struggles now, if I played with the gearing it would suffer even more. If I put a big bore kit, ported head and better pipe on it then that might be different.
