There you go Luke, a Japanese scooter you won't have to trailer to the local 7-11 to buy a Coke.

hahaha! that is still even pricey, i can get a 2003 Burgman 650 for only $1500...new tires/new belt/new brake pads. /salvaged title BUT it was already fixed a year ago and already under the sellers name, ready to transfer ownership.....i test rode it last week, i heard this pok,pok pok noise in the transmission or near it,,the owner who is a mechanic says it's normal on a Burgman 650(like a diesel sound thingie) and he said that i can buy a part that can make it a little more quiet...but the power is enormous,i'm impressed. it's the clank, clank sound that discouraged me. any burgman 650 owner in here who can attest to this?? ty

There should not be any clank clank going on, the bugrmans are very quiet at least the 650s are. So the mechanic is selling a bill of goods and you can tell him I SAID SO. Parts are very expensive for a 650 and he knows it that is why he wants to sell it as is(HAHA). Alleyoop

After what I've been through I might not be so hesitant to think about it at that price. A noise like that might simply be a bad bearing, something not so uncommon in scooter gearboxes, even Japanese. A bad bearing can cause the driveshaft to push off the intermediate shaft and make noise. What you have to ask your self is 1) Can I fix it myself or 2) If I have to pay someone to do it will the restored scooter be worth $1500+ $X.00 in repairs to me.
When you buy used anything can break down shortly after you buy it (just ask me how I know) and you could end up with a repair anyway.
