Hi. As you will probably surmise I'm totally new to scooters in general and Chinese models in particular. I have some confusion on exactly which model scooter I have. The nameplate says it’s a 2009 Jonway with a 244cc engine displacement (Which would make it the YY250T I believe), but my title says it’s a 2009 Shenke MC541. I can’t find much information on an “MC541” online, but as my scooter doesn’t appear to have a radiator I’m willing to believe it’s not a 244cc as I understand they are water cooled. Did they make an air cooled 244cc version? Is there a plate somewhere on the engine that could answer my question? Any help or guidance will be appreciated. Thanks.

The MC-54 250 was powered by the 244cc Honda CN 250 clone. The MC-54 250B was powered by the Linhai Yamaha clone. The B has a horizontal cylinder arrangement while the non-B Honda clone has a vertical cylinder. The YY-250T or whatever it's labeled is mostly irrelevant as the Chinese slap the wrong decals on things with shocking regularity. I assume yours is a Reflex replica. The radiator for early Honda clones were buried behind the fuel tank, just like the real thing (I briefly owned a Honda 250 scooter). Linhais have their radiators behind the front wheel. There aren't any air cooled 250cc Chinese engines. Air cooled bikes, yes, air cooled 250cc scooters, no.

Take the seat bucket out and look inside the engine compartment. If you see this engine:
It's a CF Moto vertical clone and it's water cooled. It's the only vertical engine in the general scooter world.
If you see this:
It's a 257cc Linhai clone and it's water cooled.
If you see this:
It's a GY6 50cc to 200cc, probably 150, and it's air cooled.
The water cooled engines have radiator hoses running to the engine, look carefully and you'll see them.

Let us add to the confusion. I have a Roketa scooter and it is known as the MC 54 250(B) and that is also on the side of the scoot. It is a 244CC water cooled vertical engine. www.roketapartsdept.com/catalog/MC_54_250_PARTS-362-1.htmlRoketa MC 54 250 parts. Now there is also the Roketa with a 257 horizontal engine. www.roketapartsdept.com/catalog/MC_54B_250_PARTS-363-1.htmlRoketa MC 54B 250 parts. So the difference it that the 54 is 244CC and the 54B is 257CC How that second B got on the sides of the scooters after the 250, I can't determine but from the Roketa web site I see the B must be behind the 54 to make the engine size difference correct. I have brought this up before but still see the B at the end to have some meaning for some folks. I think I am correct, at least with the Roketa imported scoots. If there are other importers they may have different rules. My radiator is on the left side of the hump next to the gas tank which is on the right side. .

I think I cracked the code as far as my own confusion goes. The "MC 541" I believe is short for "MC-54-150". I guess they just didn't feel like typing the last 2 digits. Since it's air cooled and has "MC541" on the paperwork I'm sure it's a GY6 150. The pictures and all the info. helped a lot. I just haven't seen enough of these engines to know which is which yet, and the nameplate threw me. Thanks again for all the help. If I can figure out how I'll post some pictures next time too.

Sorry KZ, I didn't mean to step on your post, just weird timing.
OK, look on your engine on the lower left front case:

Thanks again Bashan. I noticed that I'm missing 2 of the long bolts from the drive belt cover and there is what appears to be a cable with a metal spacer on the end that seems to fit one of the missing bolts. (sorry if i'm not describing this right, but I can't seem to get my pictures to upload) any idea where I can pick up a couple of these bolts, or what this cable might be for?
