Bummer.... no more trips up to get coffee anymore unless I'm goin to the meetings...... need to get the permit asap! Then at least I can ride when I'm going to a meeting. Anyone else in a similar bind? work permit? ?

domindart I know it's bad right now, but it will get better. I had a good friend of mine get 2yrs in prison on 2nd DUI in 4yrs. I don't know how many Ur's apart yours are. Just feel you got lucky. Do as they tell you. I know it's a PITA. Just play the game by there rules till you get your life back in your hand's. It helps to pay all your fines & do all community service as soon as possible. Oh be thankful that they didn't require you to have a Breathalyzer installed on your scoot. Good luck Dave

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they will be random breath or blood tests... I haven't been good in the past few weeks, I smoked some stuff and was drinkin, but hopefully that will not show up later if I give it a bit more time.
I had one DUI and finalized it then got two more very close to ea other so I am very grateful as of now. My lawyer said I dodged a huge bullet, as some of her clients are getting 180 days in jail. I got 48 hours.. I don't want to go back ever.

When I moved to Atlanta (Marietta) in 1978 to go to school a guy convinced me to go to a "get to know your class" party with him. I didn't want to but he dragged me along. He proceeded to get wasted and I ended up driving us home in his car which had Ohio plates. Of course the cops pulled us over because of the plates and I had to take a breathalyzer because the car smelled like booze from Mr. Wasted. I was just barely over and was released on OR out the front door of the PD which was a 10 mile walk to our apartment with Mr. Wasted. Anyway, I had to pay a $200.00 fine and get a reference form filled out and signed by a "reputable" person without an arrest record. Guess who signed it for me? Mr. Wasted!! That was it, I was done....no classes.....no AA meetings....no nothing.....boom....done. Compared to what you're going through my ordeal was mainly having to deal with my idiot roomie.
Fast forward to 2009, my stepson moves up here from Florida. His first night here he gets stopped because of Florida plates....and something else......what was that?? Oh yeah, I remember now.... driving around the town square the wrong direction! He spent three days in jail, had to take classes, go to AA meetings, only drive to work, get a breathalyzer installed on his car, and pay $1,000.00!! He was a bonehead but I have a couple problems with some of that. After the fine, he couldn't afford the $600.00 to have the breathalyzer installed. From what he said, it was wired right into the ignition so it couldn't start without a clean test. Since he couldn't afford it he couldn't drive and therefore couldn't work. He moved back to Florida and Alabama lost a taxpayer. Second, the AA meetings had a religious theme to them. I didn't think the state should be mandating attendance at organizations such as that. Anyway, what I went through compared to him was a slap on the wrist. I'm sure a mother who lost her son to a drunk driver wouldn't, and shouldn't, be too sympathetic. But a guy should be able to get around and lead a productive existence while trying to work through a DUI.

I have been with AA since about 1970. AA by itself is not a religious thing at all. Religion was avoided by the founders of AA so if you know of a religious AA, then someone is running that group independent of AA guidelines.
Each group can specialize itself for various reasons. Early morning meetings for night workers. Same with noon time meetings to fit the needs of people with children. Most are night time meetings as I remember. There are some religious sounding parts like prayers for each other and for better life. But these are not religious like Christian bible stories.
At first, after my 30 days in a hospital Addictions Recovery Unit I was released to my home and had to attend AA meetings. I found the people so interesting that I started going every night. Sometimes after the meetings we would go someplace for deserts and coffee. It took me more than a couple years to get comfortable with no AA every night.
After about 15 years attendance I dropped out of AA as we were moving to different areas. I always have kept AA in my mind in case the crazies started to control my actions again. Have been able to stay sober and clean for many years now. I hope to end my life the same way. .

I don't remember her story right now. Terrilee just went into custody in March? For how long? I don't think it was too long, like 6 months to a year maybe. I hope things pass fast for this mandated hold.

Nearest I could tell terrilee tried to kill a woman with a van who looked at her wrong, she had other issues than alcohol, like drug and head problems. I tried to figure it out from bits and pieces on all of the forums and gave up.

I still don't know really what to think of the AA meetings. I too believe they are a bit on the religious side. Even though they say to pray or talk to YOUR higher power, whoever or however they might be.
I will start going more frequently when I get my work permit. I need to get out of the house more often already lol

Well, for me and my experiences with AA, the 'higher power' is whomever you choose to be your source of comfort. It could be a religious one if you choose, or a special person, a friend, or place, whatever you wish to use is your choice of a comfort place. I don't have my Big Book handy right now so I can't just look it up in AA words.
If you do go to an AA meeting you might ask for a copy of the Big Book. Groups that I belonged to in Colorado would offer a copy to each new member. Part of our donations would be used to keep a small library of AA books available for those that needed one for reading. I know the Big Book was usually free but maybe some of the other books would be sold for cost.
Stay with the program and you should find fewer problems in your life.
I was living in Georgia for a few months. Fort Gorden was my home. A high school friend moved to Atlanta area after he graduated from college. He was working in an aircraft company in that area. Would that be Boeing? But since he moved from Ohio to Georgia I have lost contact with him. I also moved to many different states so he may not know where I am today either. .

I think anyone caught driving on drugs or alcohol shoud go to jail for a least 3 days the first timd...IF THEY ARE CAUGHT THE SECOND OR THIRD TIME shame on us they shoud be living in jail and off the strees. that is a sign of a person that shoud remain in jail till recevied the proper taining and schooling. These monsters shoud be taken of our roads and locked up till they can be trusted for driving privelges again...
Magoo has sadness in his family and friends that have lost family cause of drunk driver, and most were not jung kids but older folks.
Hurt someone while your drunk and see how that works for you...

I must admit that my info source for the religious aspect of AA was my stepson and not an official AA site. However, he was adamant that they were required to pray to the Christian god when the meeting began and was over. The AA attendance was ordered by the court, a tax funded entity. I agree the local AA around here is undoubtedly more zealous than other parts of the country and not following AA guidelines. Still, the fact that the AA chapters elsewhere pray to a "higher power" at all assumes that everyone there is on board with belief systems in invisible beings that hold sway over their existence. Not everyone does and for an AA group anywhere to engage in such an activity marginalizes and stigmatizes the non-participants. That is the slippery slope involving religious activities at publically funded events.
