i just bought a used scooter and decided to go with bbk, it is a 2 stroke, seemed to have the jetting and air/fuel good spark plug was good color seemed to be running good, took it for a little bit longer ride today and it soft seized, managed to get it home, could it have happened from leaving cooling shroud off while taking the ride or could my oil mix be bad i am running at 40:1,was going to put cooling shroud back on after i had it tuned and running good, i am running 95 jet with stock air box and after market pipe

Never run the scoot motors WITHOUT THE SHROUD they will heat up in a minute. Alleyoop

that is what i thought, but wasn't really sure if that could cause a soft seize, i did run it like that a couple times while testing it out and didn't seem to have a problem with it until today, my neighbor who has 2 stroke quads said that wouldn't make a difference but i wasn't sure about that

Sorry to say your neighbor is wrong I would question whatever he tells you and ask here FIRST before you go and do what he says. You have a 4 stroke not a 2 stroke. Alleyoop

I heard it through the grape vine(HAHA). No but really run any of these motors 2 strokes or 4 strokes like you run a scooter and they will overheat in a minute. IF they did not need the FAN TO BLOW under the shround why would you even need a fan then. The air is pretty much blocked from the motor it is right under the seat and air cannot get to the head to cool them off.
If you look at a quad they are open and seating up high and the motor gets a lot of air the motor is not inclosed like it is on a scooter. Alleyoop

thanks again took it apart and it seems like i didn't do any damage to piston or cylinder wall, so i got lucky, i made sure cooling shroud went back on don't want that problem again
