So of course after finally getting the fuel petcock replaced, not even 1 mile after I start seeing a THICK cloud of smoke coming from the headlight area and it smelled like it was either on fire or about to burst into flames. So I walked it back home( like 2 yards), and open everything up, start it and instantly I see a thick cloud coming from a hole in the back of voltage regulator. I just can't get a break....





But my question is will riding without the voltage regulator cause any problems? I know i'll loose my head light. The other lights will run directly off the battery. Will the battery will still charge without the regulator?

Also my headlight is ac, since the regulator blew the high beams stay on even with the engine off, but really dim. Why is that?


Also I replaced my headlight because the low beams blew out. Same-thing shortly after installing the new one. Would a bad regulator cause this? Also i've been blowing fuses alot so I just connected the two wires(Don't have a bucket of fuses laying around). Would the regulator cause that too?


I just replaced the stator so i'm guessing if it was already bad it couldn't handle the extra voltage.

It didn't just die, it still works but had a hole in the back as if it bursted. Is that normal?




Also the negative connector on my battery is broken and I know there has been spontaneously weak connections due to the fact I have the cable held on by tape. Normally when the connection is bad I can tell immediately because the opposite cable of the one loose will get hot and smoke. Won't get hot when connection is good.

A regulator does exactly what it`s name implies, it regulates the voltage put out by the stator to the various electrical components on the bike. Yours is toast, you cannot ride without one as the stator voltage is quite high and will burn out components, especially 12 volt bulbs, and the excessive voltage will damage the plates in the battery or even set fire to the acid.
I can`t believe you hadn`t taken the basic steps of securing connections, having a battery terminal held on by tape is ludicrous. You should know better after all the posts you`ve made on here.
Have you considered changing your mode of transport to a bicycle instead....

Every single piece on your scooter except some plastic needs to be on and working right. Fuel leaks and electrical shorts don't go good together. A fuel fire will bring your scooter down to a chard hunk of metal in seconds. You choose to ignore advice people give you here because doing it right is inconvenient for you. My final piece of advice to you. IF IT'S NOT WORKING RIGHT, DON'T RIDE IT! Your life could depend on it!

No kidding it may blow everything out. I never said I was gunna bypass the regulator, I just said not use it untill I get a new one. Did you even fully read the post?

If your boss calls you into work and your flat broke. Would you do a quick fix and get the money, or deny the work and stay home broke. Nothing i've ever done to the scooter has damaged it except for the the regulator. I know what i'm doing and the risk of it.




Anyways ive bought a new scooter and are fixing this one for someone who is now in the same position I was in. Thank you all for your help.

New scoots have problems too. Sometimes more than an older one.
Imagine your cruzin down the road and your engine just stops. The person behind you in the 3/4 ton pickup doesn't see you because he is busy texting someone. Are you fast enough to jump off the bike and run out of the way before he mows over your scoot?
This can, and does happen, we are just trying to lessen the odds that it will happen to you.

1/ You don`t seem to be that poor, you seem to show more interest from your posts in things like big bore kits, torque springs and any other performance parts which take your fancy. Maybe if you didn`t waste your money on these then you could afford a new battery or even a bolt to secure the connector.
2/ Your intention was obvious, you intended to disconnect the regulator and ride the scoot. Why would you ask if you were just going to park the scoot up and not use it ?
3/ I think very logically thank you, maybe you should try it. Stick to checking and fixing the basics, instead of try to squeeze an extra 1mph out of a very small engine.

I meet people like you all the time, they come into the shop asking if I can make their scooter go faster "because their mates scooter does 70mph".
When I look at their scoot which is only fit for a junkyard, I offer them an hour of my time for nothing to look over their scoot, make sure it`s safe and show them some basic mechanical checks. They aren`t interested, like a lot of people these days they want a quick fix, as if I can turn a screw or pull a rabbit out of a top hat to make their scoot fit for the racetrack.
It`s enough to make me weep that Britain used to be an engineering powerhouse, and yet these days we seem to turn out 16 and 17 year olds who have a 10 second attention span, and can barely wipe their own arse, let alone turn a spanner.

1.- If something needs to be replaced why not spend 15 bucks more for performance right? Notice how I report a problem then ask about performance. If your gunna do it do it right.

2.- I don't know how good your comprehension skills are I clearly said i'm doing it for a friend who is in the same situation I was. I also stated that I bought a new scooter right? Common sense.

I originaly stated that I know my head lights would not work and all lights would run off the battery. That means when I unplug the regulator the power goes out. How would it overvolt everything if its unplugged? puzzles me. But I ment will the electricity not being used cause damege to the stator. I didn't think I would have to break it down. I hate people like, overcharging to tell me what I already know. Thats why I do everything myself. People like you give repair shops a bad name. I've bassically rebuilt the whole engine part by part by myself and with the help of prior knowege common sense, google and this forum. My bike starts within the first second I push the button and tops 52. Works picked up, just bought another bike. Theirs nothing you can say. Go ahead and respond. I'm Done. ~Josh

Yea, true. Thanks dude. And trust me i'm always contemplating what I would do if anything happened. I was in the middle of thinking of what I would do if a dear jumped out in front of me and sure enough as im thinking 2 dears jump out in front of me. Scared the crap out of me but thank god there was no cars in the other lane.

you know what, these deers cause a lot of troubles, ive heard tons of stories about them jumping at the riders or cagers, shet!!! is the city animal control thingie or even the mayor is doing something about it?? they need to be killed before they can cause death to people... these deers need to be put to one area where they are contained and cannot roam around.
im officially passed!! if that happens to asia oh my god, those deers will end up in the kitchen and will have a beer party in the streets.
i dont see any use for deers except for,they are rare or whatever, they dont bark, nothing special about them, why not kill them all... they are menace to the public.

these deers need to drink some cool aid.
i hate them now. the government should release a manhunt order against this useless beast. that every deer should be gunned down!!!shyet!!!.... sorry im really mad!

1/ "If you`re gonna do it, do it right" Indeed, but if that is the case why is your battery cable held on with sticky tape ?
2/ Nowhere in your first post did it say you were doing it for a friend.
3/15mph, good grief I am impressed. Was that on your old scooter that you gave up on, or your new scooter which blew it`s regulator because of poor connections ?

I did respond by telling you what a regulator does. You just don`t get it do you ? A quick scoot is no good if it lasts a short while, concentrate on the basic stuff first for reliability.

Oh and don`t swear at others on a public forum, you let yourself down there.
