That looks like your Starter Clutch which is behind the stator plate. The 50s use a BENDIX on the CVT Side to turn the Variator Fan which has teeth which in turn, turns the crank.
On the Starter Clutch usually what makes them fail is the ceap springs on each weight. Alleyoop
