I have a 08 Roketa MC-70-150. It always starts, but lately there seems to be a longer delay between pushing the start button and the starter engaging and starting the engine. Once it engages, it starts quickly. I checked the battery and after sitting overnight the voltage was 13.2. I checked and cleaned the connections at the battery and no change. Any ideas?

Check the SOLENOID connections the RED WIRE FROM the battery goes to one terminal of the SOLENOID and the other wire goes to your STARTER. Alleyoop

That was my next thought, to go from the battery all the wat to the starter. It has always done this, just not as long. It gives you a second to wonder if it will start. So fat, it has. Thanks.

I finally got to check the connections, and everything seems ok. The starting is getting progressively worse. The red wire from the battery goes to what the parts book calls a relay. I do not see a solenoid listed anywhere. Am I missing something? Is there a way to bypass the relay to insure that the starter is the problem. Starters are not cheap! Thanks for any help.

What you are calling the RELAY is the SOLENOID. To test the starter JUMP the SOLENOID, touch both terminals on the Solenoid and see if it spins your starter. Most likely though the problem is a weak battery it will not take a load. Next battery you do get, get one with over 100 CCA(COLD CRANKING AMPS). Your cheap batteries the CCAs are well under 100 and they cannot take a load and will only crank fast for a few seconds. Alleyoop Here is what a SOLENOID(RELAY) looks like:

The starter was making a weird noise and now has died completely. I removed the starter and hooked up wires directly and nothing. I am getting 13 volts through the solenoid. I am sure the started motor is dead. My next question is that I am finding a large variation in prices for what appears to be the same starter. From about $24 to $124. How much difference can there be? I appreciate all your help and advice.

I took the starter out and left it sitting on the bench. A couple days later, I looked and there was a puddle of oil that had come from the starter motor. Am I correct that there should not be oil in that motor. Is there a seal that failed around the shaft?

Yes your are correct there should not be any oil inside the starter that is why it fried. Alleyoop

Thanks, that's what I thought. Is there any thing I might do to prevent this from happening again? Is this a common problem?

No not a common problem just the luck of the draw really, I have over 10,000 miles on my Trike and it has the Original Battery, Starter, Solenoid, Stator, Coil Pick and R/R. The other stuff CDI and Coil I replaced with performance parts but the Originals are still good. Alleyoop
