1st a big thanks, have troubleshot many of issues on my chino Gy6s from info found on this forum. Currently I am working on a 2-stroke 2005 yamaha vino, that will only kick start. I am curious should the voltage testing be the same as on the 4-stroke stator , rectifier etc?

Yes, they all work the same, the only difference is the actual motor but the electrical are pretty sameo sameo. The stator could have less poles but they work the same, pickup coil, CDI, COIL etc.. Same with the electric start. Alleyoop

Well the electric start is not hard to figure out. The battery feeds the SOLENOID the Soleniod feeds the starter. With the key on it feeds the brakes, when you squeeze the brake it sends voltage to the SOLENOID, then when you press the START BUTTON it grounds the SOLENOID to complete the circuit and the contact inside makes contact with both terminals of the solenoid and sends 12V to the starter.
Most common problem is either a weak battery or the Solenoid is shot. If pressing the start button you hear a Clicking sound that is a giveaway that the SOLENIOD is bad. Then to test jump the 2 terminals on the solenoid and if the battery is good it will spin your starter.
The other thing when you squeeze the brakes your stop lights should come on if they don't it could be a bad brake switch so you can try the other brakes and see if it does light up your brakelights. If not then the best thing to do is check to make sure your key switch is getting 12v from the battery, if not check the fuse on the red wire coming off the battery. Hope some of this helps Alleyoop

Appreciate the info, pretty much had already isolated problem to being "weak" battery, hence the original question, which was is the 2stroke charging system being the same as 4T. Battery was weak about 10.9v before starting. Charged it overnight, and I am about to double check voltages on stator, rectifier, etc. To see if battery is bad, or if its the charging system

Start it up and test he battery, then rev it up to around 3-4k and see if the voltage goes up to around 13+ if it doesn't and stays low It is not charging and most likely is just your R/R. Alleyoop

Did what you you said got 13+volts it was sitting at 8+ without engine running. Battery has a molex type connector so I had to set up a way to get the readouts. After charging battery overnight, even though it didnt turn over I could hear the the starter trying to turn. I think its just and old weak battery (its a 2005) FYI solenoid test did same as above, once again thanks for the help... C
