So my speedo on my 50cc taotao says I'm doing 35-40 but it felt a lot slower. the GPS speedo app I downloaded says I'm only actually doing 25mph.. So the two questions are why is the speedo wrong, and why am I only getting 25 mph out of it?

Hey agentwright,
I'm new to the scooter world too, but what I've been reading around the web about Taotao's is that you have to change out some of the parts and fluids, like the carburetor, tubing and oil, for example, from what comes standard. Those are what I'm starting out with, but I found out the hard way that not all the info I found was accurate. On one of these websites, that suggested changes, recommended to use 10W-40 motor oil for an ATM50-a1 scooter with 4500+ miles on it (that's me!), while the manual I downloaded from here indicates that 10W-30 oil should be used. Due to the reaction my scooter had with the 10W-40 oil (that is, a lot of smoke from the tail pipe at first; it went out a couple of times, once while accelerating and once while idle; and it seems to be maxing out at 25 or 30 MPH, like yours), I'm going to go with what the manual says and change it out for 10W-30 oil. And, if any of the gurus read this, it seems that Shell Rotella may be the best oil for any 2 wheeler (?).
Hope this helps
