First off... this will be a first for me..I am a NEWB.. I could use all the help I can get. My compression is LOW. and I added oil and it shot up to where the manual said it should be. That indicates to me... that the rings are bad and need to be replaced. This is where I will be getting a lot of my help from... so to reference it would be great... majestyscooter.uw.hu/Letoltes/250/YP250_Service_Man_1996.pdf

as you can see, i have taken everything off the engine... I am now at a stand still.. I understand that I need to take the timing chain off... by first lining it up to top dead center... then holding the varriator while turning the timing chain bolt counterclockwise.... either i dont have enough umph to do it... or I am doing it wrong.... can someone give me some advice.... I wanna be able to get to the rings tonight if possible.

little advice so you get the timing back at the same spot. Mark the flywheel where it is pointing to when at TDC and then MARK the CAM SPROKET and CHAIN as well: Alleyoop And take pictures of every step then you can add a Thread to the TIPS and TRICKS on how to replace the RINGS on a 257 LINHAI MOTOR. I know this is not for your motor but just as to how to mark it:

Thats a GREAT idea... I will mark it with some fingernail polish or something... But my problem remains of how to disconnect the timing chain bolt...

Do you have an IMPACT WRENCH? Maybe a socket on the Variator NUT wedge the handle of the wrench so it doesn't rotate. That will hold the crank in that position. If you don't have an impact wrench, then put the socket on it and hammer on the end of the wrench handle. Alleyoop

Great, Also mark the Flywheel timing mark so if it moves you can get them back in the same exact timing. Alleyoop

How much more work is it to throw in the big bore kit while I am doing this? And is it worth it... I am a long distance driver for sure...and I like to go fast
Edit: Man! Actually forget that...$ 549.00 for big bore kit. Thats not worth it at all.. I can pick up another 250 for that price... but If someone can source it for cheaper maybe I would give it a whirl..

Your right it is not worth it. That motor running good should easy do 70+ mph. The linhai motors are really nice motors. Alleyoop

I did not get a chance to work on it today. HOMEWORK sucks!---- anyways... I still need to order the rings, and new gaskets... so i am not in too big of a hurry. I will be ordering a new belt at the same time.
If this doesnt fix my performance issue, I AM GONNA SCREAM and prolly HURT SOMEBODY! lol not really... but dangit this better be it!
If for some reason it doesnt fix it, I will be parting it out on ebay for CHEAP... This is my LAST attempts... mark my word....
