So after lots of help from this forum (thanks alley) I finally got the Tao running 100%. I figured today was the day that it needed to be taken out and rode for real. It kept up with town traffic great! Of course on hills she did what most 50cc's do and slowed. I rode for a little over and hour and there was never a change in performance. It ran great and strong the whole way. Way better handling than my Honda Elite 80. I also picked up a project scooter today. Not sure on the exact name but it has a gy6 engine in it. I didn't pay much at all for it and it's a good thing. She is a absolute wreck. Things have been unplugged everywhere and the carb wasn't even all together. The kid said he just couldn't get it to start and it's no wonder. I got it to sputter once with another carb but I think it's going to take a new one to get the job done.

Your project scooter is similar to a Lance Charming I owned briefly. Once you get it running its performance will surprise you.

I look forward to getting it running. It's much smaller than my tao and would think it would have a little more pep in it's step. It might be a good while before I get to experience it though. Like I said, she is a mess.

I bought the Lance for cheap too. Oddly enough it only had 900 too. It needed a CDI and a carb cleaning and the new owner is tearing around with it and loving it.

That is a odd coincidence for sure. If you don't mind me asking, where is the CDI located in these? I could not for the life of me find it when I was looking the bike over. I'm really starting to think it's missing.

Good to hear your tao is now running good. That one you bought is a nice looking scoot. First find your coil going to your plug which is easy then follow the wires and it will lead to the CDI. Alleyoop

Yep, it's missing.I guess that could be a problem haha. I've got an extra one i'll stick in there. I guess the sputter i heard was just the old girl coughing up cobwebs...or maybe I imagined it. It's pitiful how some people treat chinese scoots. He had it outside and uncovered, just rotting away.
