No, we don't get Peugeot here. They used to sell mopeds, but now the moped market has come down to Tomos and Bashan.

What KZ said. Thank you for your input though, it's def helpful. Another question, would a shorter wheel base or longer be better for the type of roads i'm going to be on? Or would it make much of a difference? sorry if that's a newb question.

Wheelbase isn't the only deciding factor in how a scooter handles. Fork angle, wheel size, height of the scooter, weight and center of gravity all have an influence. On the highway it's not a big deal. If you're riding on dirt roads larger rims are better.
Many of the best handling Superbikes have shallow fork angles and short wheelbases. Long wheelbases and steep, chopper like fork angles is Old School.

I'm not going to be on any dirt roads, as far as I know. Just curvy back roads through the country. Great info, by the way.

This guy is very basic with the pro's and con's of longbase vs shortbase but judging by what he says it seems like I'd like the long more for what I'm doing. If nothing else, just for the comfort factor.

The guy is right. For in town 30-40 min trips the short wheel base is the way to go. It is way more fun riding. For a couple hours of riding the long wheel base is fine. For touring on the freeways I would take a big bike. A scooter with a low center of gravity and a big ol windshield is going to be a job riding with wind buffeting at high speeds. A big bike is way more stable under those conditions. And with the big scooters some of them approaching $10,000 if it is going to be used for cross country I would get a used goldwing or the like for that.

Def no touring for me at this point. A few hours on the back roads is my dream. I've found a few long wheel base china bikes in my area in my budget. Actually found a couple really cheap but a test drive could prove them to be cheap for a reason.

I think you should think about a 250cc... they are not too much more... and they will hold speed and value better... I rarely get passed by normal drivers... just the crazy idiots who go 15-20 mph over the limit... I cruise right at 60 mph easily.. max out about 68 mph... just a thought... buying used is not a bad option if you have the guys on this forum to help you out, or if your able to do it all yourself... I got my 250 that runs for 550 bux with 1300 miles on it... I got my 257 that does not run for 1100 with 600 miles on it...
So it's all a shot in the dark... NEW or USED... Goodluck to ya

I've been considering it, jennings. You're right when you say they arent much more. Some crazy drivers around here too. Then again most of the roads i'm going to be on have a speed limit of no more than 45mph.
Another question I have, has anyone had any experience with the scooter/motorcycle hybrid bikes? You know the ones with a scooter engine but a sport bike body? I've seen a few of them but know almost nothing about them. I had a friend in college that had one and he seemed to like it but it was new at the time.

in my opinion.. if your gonna get a "bike" make it a real bike, meaning let it have a bigger engine that is speedy and capable of highway rides
Scooter engines are for scooters... just my opinion though

Thanks! I'm going in the morning to check out a wildfire 150. Only 200 miles on it! Any thing I should be looking at specifically on this bike?

I hate to ask a silly question, but, is it yours now? If so, very nice. They are quick and fairly sturdy.

Yep! She's officially mine, just finished up at the DMV. Talking about some pep! I took it up some of the steepest hills we have in my neighborhood and it flew. I'm guessing this bike is still in break in period with such low miles? What do you guys recommend I do differently during this time?
