Since we all are different weights, mods etc, what is the documented best rpm range for our scoots? Both 50 and 150 are probably similar. I like a lighter weight slider to accellerate a bit better but i dont want to be over the powerband so what RPMS should these be running at?
In trying to tune the variator you can get pretty much dialed in. What is dialed in? Screaming a 9000 might seem fast and 7000 may now quite be there either.

I've found that my GY6 pulls its best at between 7000 to 8000 rpm. And I believe that is typical of most Gy6 engines from what I have read. However, I reckon torque comes in below that as mine pulls quite strong so long as it is around 5500 or above.
I've changed my weights from 12g to 15g and it still seems to pull pretty much just as well, but doesn't seem to be revving the engine so much. That suits my personal driving better at the moment as I don't do much in town start stop stuff.

If you read the specs the Gy6 motors 50s and 150s they make their max HP at around 7500 rpms. So if you can dial it in to be in the 7K range you are there. As far a tachs are concerned if you bought one of the cheap ones on EBAY there is a delay when it registers. You have to get a better one that does not delay the registering of the rpms. The TAO TAO tach is a good one I have one on my Trike even though there is a tach built into my instrument panel. Alleyoop

I think you do not have it wrapped good or it is actually your motor that is slow to bring up the RPMS. Take a Video of the tach while you twist the throttle. Alleyoop

Alley, I have the rpms dialed in at 7900-8000 max rpm just after launch. Up around 20-25 mph the rpms drop down to 6700-7000 and the aclelleration seems to go flat. I didnt notice this with the .5 gram lighter weights. It seemed to be smoother up to at beyond 30-40 etc.

The problem your having is with your weights you have to light of weights. The way the cvt is supposed to be setup is when you crank your throttle open it should only rise to anywhere from 6-7K rpms then when the BELT reachs it's highest on the variator THEN the rpms should start to climb higher and the scoot then picks up more speed. ok. wow. So if it came with stock roller of 5grams and me being 250 pounds...you are saying that perhaps 6gram sliders would do what i need it to? It wont kill my off the line ? It just seems counter intuitive to what Ive been reading about heavier riders wanting better acceleration but i do value your opinion. if you tell me i should buy 6 gram weights, i will

Well here is the thing You CANNOT HAVE KILLER TAKE offs and MAX TOP END. You have to find the weights that will give you good take offs and good top end. Too heavy of weights will lower your rpms and may not reach max speed and too light will not push the Variator out all the way to push the belt high near the edge of the variator. Best way is to Mark your Variator and then try different weights and see which grams make the belt climb the highest with descent rpms. Alleyoop

I have not figured out how to tell rpm's on my Roketa Bali scooter. The less rpm's the better fuel economy. I don't have my engine sounding to mean sounding. Quiet... Mine has no rpm guage. But I think the lower the sound, the higher the speed one can travel. I guess at my rpm.. To low it will not run, to high and the scooter sounds like I am racing the engine standing still. Something in between so it will continue to run..

I better rephrase. By topend i dont mean top speed. What I meant was Accelleration from say 25-30 seems flat at wot. Top speed is not really an issue. With either setup i can get to 35. When I ran 4.5 sliders it was better but rpms were high as well. Going to 5 grams is where i get the flat feeling after 25 mph or so at wot. My rpms are down in the "range" now but lacks peppiness.
Regarding rpms. Is it that sustained high rpms are dangerous or that periodic peaks of rpms in the mid 8s are as bad? If with my weight and sliders of 4.5 grams, I only hit that rpm for a second before it drops to more manageable ranges is that an issue?

You're asking a 3 cu. in., 3 horsepower engine to pull as strong and rev slower pulling quite a bit of weight. It's just not going to happen. Either you have to take the lighter weights for better acceleration and more revs to top speed or lackluster acceleration all the way to top end, but lower revs once there. There's no magic bullet that will give you lower revs and zippy takeoff, short of a big bore kit and bigger weights.
